For me, it's always at least 5, and often 10 (13 right now).

I hate to close a thread that is interesting, and like to check back often for new information.

There are just so many very interesting subjects here on GJ!!!

I hate it when interesting threads end prematurely, especially if the OP could have just kept things going.

I especially love the Electrical and Lighting section, and appreciate the posters there, who submit so many authoritative and useful posts.

I usually open about 10 windows in the morning.
BUT I subscribe to the threads that interest me so I can read any updates.

Mainly one GJ thread, but sometimes two. I do have multiple windows open though depending on whether I am reading the news, looking for a part, or working on a drawing. I may have 5 tabs open then.

I have 2 or 3 going and post on ones that I find interesting but don't have time to read through and can then go back and look at my recent post to find that thread again to continue one.

Usually one GJ tab. But I may open a new tab here and there for longer threads. However, I do have 24 tabs open across 3 windows.

I just hit New Posts every minute, and anything interesting I middle mouse click on to open in tabs. Then go through all the tabs, read reply and such and then close them. When all tabs are closed, hit new posts and start again.

I usually start in FP when I log on to GJ, and scroll through all the threads I've posted in that have been bumped since I logged off the previous day, opening each one in a new tab. Then I scroll through for interesting new thread titles & tab them too. So it's usually around 20 tabs open, then I click each tab one by one, do my business & close, which opens the next tab...and so on.

I use tab groups in Firefox. In one group, I keep open:

Let's see your toolbox.
Milwaukee Addiction
The 2 WTF threads... err, the WTF thread
The Awesome thread
The Pinup thread... not anymore
The craigslist dreamers.
Occasionally a hot thread will get added here, then drop off.

In another group, I keep the forums I browse, each in their own tabs. This way I know exactly where I am, so I waste less time reading stuff I've already read.

I still live like I'm in the days of 56k, of which out in the middle of nowhere we were for a very long time still while everyone else had been fast on the net for many years.

When I surf forums (I have many forums for all the stuff I'm interested in) I generally open each sub-section I frequent in a new tab, then open all the pages until there's no new posts showing on the page (example, I opened page 1-3 here in Free Parking.) Then on each page I open all the threads I'm interested in reading which may be 1 or may be 10.

Like I said, it's habit still from the old days of 56k where I would open pages in new tabs to let them load while reading one that has already loaded. Some forums will time out with the new posts showing and when you have multiple pages in a section, by the time you get to page 2, they aren't showing as new posts any more.

I'm not addicted to Garage Journal, it's just one of the forums I visit. I'm addicted to forums. Garage Journal, multiple bicycle forums, multiple photography forums, RC forum, camping forum, forum for each vehicle I own.

I use the search for threads updated in last 24 hours. Then, I ctrl-click on the ones I'm interested in. When I get through the list, I start reading the individual tabs.

30 open right now. Some days probably 50.

When I get the search results, I add &pp=100 to the URL and refresh. Gives me just 4-5 pages to scroll through.
