Forgive me if this has been done recently.

How many hand power tools do you own? Let's say corded, cordless, and pneumatic. Let's keep it in the shop; don't need to start adding in all of the yard tools. By 'hand', I mean a tool you would normally hold in your hand to use, as opposed to bigger stuff, like a table saw. And it has to 'do' something; a laser doesn't count, but nail guns do.

By a quick count, I got 38. Pretty even mix of corded, cordless; and pneumatic. Several tools are obsolete or surplus to my needs. Yet I have three circular saws, and 'need' all three. Corded, cordless, and a beater for use on fiber cement and metal cut-off wheels.

Count 'em up!

If you count all my Milwaukee cordless lights, its about 100 between M12, M18, & USB battery operated tools..... plus some random cordless, corded, pneumatic stuff which does not matter anymore except my Bosch router and Hitachi belt sander which there is no Milwaukee cordless replacement.

I have about 6-7. I don't have a ton of needs, other than a drill, angle grinder, and impact wrench. Too many tools and then everyone starts asking for help...

EDIT:

curiosity got me so I did a quick countdown tv in my head:

32 cordless
17 pneumatic
41 corded

a lot of duplicates since I had almost everything before cordless became reliable, then I had to get cordless!

I’m not doing this.. more then i need, less than i want..
enough to start a contacting business and probably tool up an entire crew.

My wife gives me a look of "don't you already have that" anytime I even think about looking at tools. I had a contractor tell me last summer that I had more power tools in my garage than he does to run his business.

Quick count in my head without going to the garage works out to 61 not counting big stuff like Table Saw, Tile Saw, Miter Saw, Wet/Dry Vacs, Compressor, Laser or Lawn Equipment.

Corded:
6 Saws
2 Grinders
1 Oscillating Tool
3 Routers
4 Sanders
1 Dremel Tool
1 Rotozip
1 Drywall Screwgun
1 Rotary Hammer
2 Drills
1 Heat Gun
1 Polisher
1 Paint Sprayer
1 Biscuit Jointer
1 Handheld Power Planer

Cordless:
8 Drills
4 Impact Drivers
2 Impact Wrenches
1 Ratchet
5 Saws
1 Grinder
1 Blower
2 Lights
2 Vacuums
1 Inflator

Pneumatic:
3 Trim Nailers
1 Framing Nailer
2 Staplers
1 Palm Nailer

Of course there are other things I want to add to the collection but not until I have another big house project to tackle.

Far more than I need. Hell, I have at least 15 corded angle grinders.

I'm up to 41 now. No, I didn't buy any more; just recalled a few I'd forgotten.

I've had a pretty good collection going back 40 years of aggressive DIY. When I started building our house, that got me in to cordless (M18), plus nailers and a few other special tools. I figure I saved $100K building my house, so the purchases were justified. Pretty much all of my tools have earned their keep many, many times over. Oddly enough, the only tool I used professionally was a pneumatic pencil grinder.

Sadly, there's not much left to buy. I need to replace a burned out angle grinder, and I'd love a cordless jigsaw, but haven't seen one that can hold a candle to my old Bosch.

I'm working right now on organizing and storing my power tools. I set up an entire shelving unit, and it's almost full. If I can keep it organized, I think it will suffice. It's too cold for the M18 batteries in the winter, so I keep them in the basement.

More than 100, less than 200 (I think) and I've only bought 3 Lithium powered cordless tools so far so as my NiCad batteries get where I no longer want to rebuild them, that number could grow.

Without actually counting I'd say probably 25-30.

My wife used to question why I had so many of what she considered the same tool, such as why so many drills. I'd start to explain that they had different capabilities, some are hammer drills, with a subset of SDS drills, some are corded, some cordless, one is an extra heavy duty gear reduction model, some of what she calls drills are actually impacts.

She'd get confused and walk away. Mission accomplished!

I'd have to guess around 120ish. I haven't done inventory since last September and it has grown a bit....

Roughly:
55 cordless
45 corded
35 pneumatic

It is weird to have both too many and not enough.

I'm assuming that you guys with really large numbers of tools, like 100+ use them professionally?

Yes and no. In my case I have employees and a **** load of tools ( I did some quick math while at my shop at it worked into over $500). Now for my own personal I have over 100, but a lot of them are specialty tools that I just don't want floating around the shop at this time because they are either expensive or easily breakable, so I keep them at home.

I wouldn't assume that. This is Garage Journal. Many of us on here tend to have tool hoarding issues...I mean tool collecting interests and disposable income.

As for myself, I am a professional. However, my profession does not require the use of any tools.
