I have a 10x10 room set aside in the corner of my new shop for a small kitchen. What kind of lights should I put in and how many? Rough dimensions are 10 x 10 with 12 foot ceilings. The rest of the shop has 8 foot 4 bulb T8 flourescents. Would 4 recessed can lights provide enough light with 12 foot ceilings?

Before I even finished reading your question I was saying to myself...do 4. I have a 24 x 24 with 16 cans...You can NEVER have to much light

To answer the first question, we want it bright enough without overkill.

This will be a kitchen area with cabinets down both sides and the door to enter the room is on one end and a window on the opposite end. Stove/Oven and Sink will be on one side and the fridge will be on the other side.

Now on to the second comment, will 4 can lights be bright enough with 12 foto ceilings? I have 6 in a much larger kitchen in the house and it's plenty of light but it's only 9 foot ceilings and not 12 in the house.

I have a 20x12 office and it is etremely well lit with four 2xT8 fixtures. For your size I would think two 2xT8 should be plenty...

I would think the 4 can lights would work well for general lighting. Then add some task specific lighting under the cabinets in strategic areas. This is how it is usually done in a good kitchen.

As mentioned, 4 cans or 2 T8's. Or do both and have them on seperate swithces. They each put out their own ambiance so you can set a different mood!
