How many lights do I need?

I'm getting ready to hang fluorescents in my new shop. I have two seperate sections to light right now. Part of the building is a two bay 24 x 36 open shed with 12' ceilings. The enclosed portion is 30 x 30 with 12' ceilings. I'm planning on putting in 8' flurorescents but that's about as far as I have planned. Is that the best route to go and if so how many do I need on the inside and how many on the outside? The inside will be tool storage, parking for the mower and an area for woodworking. I'm also planning on under cabinet lights in the woodworking section. The open shed is mainly for parking boat and trailer and I have a small fish cleaning area out there.

In my 24x40 with 12' ceilings, I ended up with 17 fixtures, each having four 4' T8 tubes.
I don't like shadows in my work area, and the older I get the more light I need to see details.

Jesus!! that's a lot of light! If I had the money I probably would have put more in the shop but that wasn't the case. :(

I put eight of the same fixtures in my 36 x 45 with 10' ceiling. They put off enough light for me.
