How many ratchets do you own?

i noticed you have the locking carlyle and armstrong ratchets there. Do you like one better than the other? also in 1/4 the gearwrench flex vs the carlyle. thanks for any input!

I absolutely luv the Carlyle rats, they fast became my go too's. I can't stand the Armstrongs. The mechanism is just ok but the lock does not work. I also had the 1/2" version too but have it to a good friend on mine a while back.

About 30.

A couple of Snap On.
About 3 SK.
Maybe 7 USA Craftsman.
About 10 Gearwrench.
About 5 HF
About 3 Tekton

The Snap On and Gearwrench ratchets are my favorites and most used. My cheaper ratchets are mostly for my trunk tool bags and hardly get used.

Do we have to talk about this?

I'm guessing around 18-20, which is more than I need. Thanks to GJ, I'm up for a few more, if the price is right.

Working on my Tacoma last week, I thought I would use a Snap On F936 (3/8"), but opted for the Dual 80. After the starter replacement job, my thought was, "life is short; reach for the Dual 80". That is one great ratchet!

I hate these threads, they make me buy stuff I definitely don't need. I own somewhere around 35 ratchets give or take. Mostly matco and snap on, but wouldn't you know it I just ordered 3 more last night.
It's definitely not because I need them, it's simply because seeing these large ratchet collections on here has me convinced momentarily that owning that many ratchets is reasonable. Even though I know for sure it's not reasonable at all.

I foolishly thought to myself that my collection of ratchets had reached its peak. Then I just had to go and download Letgo, like 1 hour in, I am in my car driving to go pick up my first dual 80. I did get a steal on it, as a consolation prize for having 0 willpower.

It is definitely GJ's fault, not that it could be proven in a court of law, but it is.

My new ratchets arrived today. A Matco 15" 3/8 drive soft grip locking flex head, a snap on soft grip compact 1/4" body 3/8" drive swivel head, and a Wright 3430 3/8 drive compact. I'll post pics tomorrow.

I've never given it much thought, but since they're not all in the same locations, if I were to hazard a guess, it would probably be around 24 to 30.

Over 100 I think. I've given some away and sold a couple, even thrown some away( craftsman RP) and believe I still have over 100. Proto accounts for the majority.
Someday I should get a pic.

I've got 2 Kobalt 3/8" (one 72T and one 90T) and a flex-head Pittsburgh Pro, 2 1/4" HF (one composite one cheapie that came with a 1/4" socket set), and a single 1/2" HF that came in a set, soon to be accompanied with a Kobalt 90T. I keep a Kobalt breaker bar in 3/8" and 1/2" as well.

I'm gonna look like a shill with how much I praise the Kobalt stuff, but I've had the 72T Kobalt ratchet for over a decade now and have zero complaints.

Are those homemade Harbor Freight "stubby" rotohead ratchets?

Nope the real deal. Appears Harbor Freight no longer sells them.

I had someone else eye-balling them and asked me about them too.

Sad HF stopped making them. I just looked and they don't.

I guess I have a collectors item. lol

I think I have around 60 ratchets. 45% being truck brands. The rest are SK, Craftsman, Gearwrench, then vintage ones of various makes.

Here is an updated pic post tool cleaning/putting away weekend. These 22 are in my main box and what I use regularly.
There is another drawer in an older chest full of craftsman, duralast, sk, etc that doesn't really see daylight. I think there is somewhere around 10-15 in that box.

I have over 100. Only 9 of them I actually use. Majority of all the other ones are old or ones I felt were cool. I have what my ol lady calls "an unhealthy obsession for ratchets". Lol!

A few minor additions and subtractions as of late. Currently sitting at 47 after receiving a nice Kraeuter branded SK in 3/8 this past weekend.

I was able to stuff 35 (thirty five) 3/8" drive ratchets into the top drawer of this Kennedy roller. :dunno:
There's some bleed over into another drawer. :Help:

I have 16. That's about normal considering each of my vehicles have tool kits and then about 8 ratchets in my garage tool cabinet.

Pro - I have 2 that I use regularly and 4 total at work. Short and long in 1/4" and 3/8". Another 3 at home for auto work and 3 in my truck tool box.

Total of 9 that get used fairly regularly. If I worked more on automotive I'd have another 3 probably.

I bought a ratchet....a Chinese 1/4" 24t pearhead comfort grip. Its chromed perfectly and cost $2.99 delivered. So now I have one ratchet, I think its so good and smooth that I won't ever have to buy another. The Chinese EBay seller said it has warranty so I know I'm covered and my investment is secure. I pulled it apart to oil it and noticed it had 2 pawls (1 for on/1 for off) so I'm happy its a dual pawl latest technology design. The seller confirmed my thoughts on quality claiming in the description 'very strong turn fast socket machine' so yup, I'm happy!

Somewhere around 35. A third of them are SK. I use most of them except for one or two.

I have a bunch around my house and in the various cars (emergency tool bags/boxes in every car, plus I do warehouse breakdown work so I have tools at work) so I'm just listing the ones I use at least once a month... I probably have around 10 or 15 in total.

1/4in drive -- Snap-on TM75. I found it on the side of the road when I was like 15. No idea how old it is.

3/8in drive -- Proto 5249 (daily driver, was my grandfathers) and a Craftsman "universal" ratchet that isn't terrible when I dump silicone brake caliper grease into it.

1/2in drive -- Kobalt 72 tooth ratchet and a Craftsman "universal" ratchet. Both feel like junk.

still in the 30's, maybe 33 or 34. Traded someone here 2 for a new Milwaukee multi meter years ago so that was well worth it.

Kinda want to go to some more yardsales, but I am so sick and tired of driving around this city in traffic I don't want to bother. I love driving even though I own a barge, but it kills me to deal with the morons here. Maybe if they were at night so I could fly around and not be bothered by other cars. Plus I should probably get something I can actually use some tools on instead of them just sitting in the box, maybe an old cheap honda cb or something. Thankfully the car doesn't need to be worked on too much.

Maybe a 3/8 sk dt mechanism when HJE day comes around. Koken and a williams 3/8 long handle might be in the future. I could use to get rid of about half of mine that I don't feel too strongly about, I'd through them up on the classifieds but I don't want to look up prices for them, rather just trade for some others.

Just added 2 sk ratchets... a complete blast from the past 42470 with all original parts not any real wear, not even on the inside... and the Selector switch is so skinny, i dont even have an idea on the age. Does have a “diamond s-k” engraving.. and snagged an “sk wayne” 45170... to the song of $23 for both...

Those flea markets are decent around my way, even got a “superadjustible” from williams... going tomorrow
