And I'm done pretty quick. It's quicker to grab another ratchet with the socket you need already on it, than swap things around, drop them, and have an extension or socket roll under the heaviest thing in the shop. :)

You know, i was probably working on cars as a hobby for 7-8 years before someone on this board explained the utility of owning multiple ratchets... for all that time i only had one of each size! :wtf: Man, what a revelation!

Currently:
1/4- 3 + in-lb torque wrench
3/8- 5 + 1 breaker bar + 2 torque wrenches
1/2- 2 (one is large enough to be a breaker bar in it's own right) + 1 torque wrench
3/4- 1 breaker bar (and so far only one socket... obviously, this was a "throw your tools down in disgust and leave for Sears in the middle of a project" purchase)

Plus i've probably got three or four more 3/8" and a 1/4" or two in toolkits that i leave in one vehicle or another. i need to get a few more, although i doubt i'll break 30 any time soon!

4 1/2" craftsman (it's ok)

I do not think S/O sells the flat side ratchets like the one in your picture anymore, I have (2) 1/2 flat side S/O ratchets, and one 3/8. The reason I do not think they make them anymore is, they disappeared from the catalog, last time I checked.

I understand that the flat style ratchets, disappeared in the 50's. My dad has one, that is older then him, and he picked it up, with some metric sockets, at a Sears surplus store, in the very early 70's. (yes, you read it right, where he bought it, LOL)

I have heard the flat sides referred to as I Beam, I have 1/2 that is in great shape and I use it regularly. I recently greased the head for the first time in memory and it is good to go.

I probably have 25 or 30 total, but this one is my favorite.

1/2 DR. 24 LF 60 TOOTH RATCH

• 1/2" Drive 24" Locking Flex 60 Tooth Ratchet
• 60 gear teeth produces only a 6° swing arc allowing faster work in the most compact spaces.
• Unique 9 position locking flex head ensures that the ratchet head maintains the desired position regardless of size or applied load.

Just picked up another long handle Snap On yesterday. I don't need it, but I couldn't resist.
It's not really a sickness, more like a terminal disease.

Of course, you already knew that.

Hey, that's my favorite one too; great for taking off lug nuts and anything else that requires a little extra torque ... :)

True about it being expensive, but you gotta try it .. Fine Tooth, really smooth, 7' action ... hard to describe; next time you see the Matco guy, ask him to let you see it, then you'll know what I mean ..

Oh, I am not doubting that it's nice... problem is if I ask the Matco guy about it I'm gonna want it and that's gonna lead to problems!
