hi,

i hav 2x8 walls. i am running (14) 12/2 romex straight up to the load bearing plate to come out into the attic. i have a 20' celing.

i am doing two 4 gang boxes in the cavity. (i am also doing 2 4 gang boxes in the next cavity, to there are 14 romex for each side.

so, i know i can drill a hole at the top place that is 1.8" and be at the 25% hole limit for a 2x8.

any problem running all 14 though that one hole or should i drill a series of holes.

i have read the code info but it is not real clear.

i live in arizona.

thanks

tom

In Colorado we are only allowed 2 wires per 1" hole just talk with the local inspector and ask but I bet youll be about the same there

Unless there is a written local amendment, you are safe running four cables, sized #14, #12 or #10) through a hole without thinking about derating.

There are several codes building up to this but this is the bottom line.
