How are we counting this? Is a set, for example, 3/8th drive metric six point shallow set a set? IF that's how we're counting this... A lot. In my main garage box I have 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive sets, in shallow and deep, metric and standard, and six and 12 point. Plus metric and standard, shallow and deep, 3/8th and 1/2" impact sockets. And we havent even hit the "extra" sets yet.

However if we're talking about a set being a usable assortment of say 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" sockets, then the number is a lot lower.

I sold off all my 1/2" sets and went 100% impact (all Apex that I picked up some time ago). No problem with clearance issues so far. Gotta black Snap-on ratchet and Apex extensions to match.

3/8" Snap-on SAE, Wera SAE/MM, sweet Indestro set in case, IR and CP impact set (one MM, one SAE)

1/4" Wera SAE/MM, large impact set (one of the Taiwanese companies, I forget the brand)

Since there's no rust issues here, if I were starting over, and didn't care about cost, I would consider 100% Apex impact, thinwall where possible, and see how it went.

Plus a few of those Craftsman socket sets in the metal trays that I bought in the 1970's. Not valuable enough to sell, too cool to throw away. I probably should just take a portable toolbox and stuff it full of the things I don't use and tuck it away somewhere.

1/4 and 3/8 - Shallow, semi, deep
1/2 regular and impact - Shallow and deep
1/2 - axle nut service sockets
Allen - Regular and impact in all drive sizes
Hex and Torx - Half-cut, shallow, semi, long in all drive sizes

Can you tell that I own German cars?
