Voted >5. All screw drivers...I use the old style Craftsmans for my dirty work: 'impacting', prying, chiseling, etc. They wear out under that sort of stress. Broke a Mac driver that belonged to my grandfather putting serious torque on a seized bolt. With a wrench on the shank, the thing finally gave way right at the moment a piece of the tip cracked off.

I have a few waiting to be warrantied. Couple t-handle ball-end allen wrenches of various make (among my most frequently used at work), and a handful of sockets. The Snap-Ons I'll definitely swap out. The Matco I'm thinking of adding to my next load of junk metal...I tried out some of their sockets and, in my opinion, they're well suited to the scrap yard.

Anyone have any experience trying to warranty out stuff with any of the German companies? Our supplier at work sells almost exclusively German tools (chiefly Hazet, Stahlwille, Heyco, and Knipex) and while they are very good, I often wonder what sort of warranty, if any, they carry with them.

Meh, all part of the job.

I haven't warrantied much. I usually consider a worn out tool to be a good opportunity to try something different and hopefully better.

If something breaks the first time I use it, then I know it was mfg defect and I warranty it. In the past year or two that has only been Craftsman specialty tools. I struck a pin punch and it bent like it was soft copper. I think it missed heat treat or something. I also got some Craftsman hose clamp pliers and the tip snapped off on the first use.

i forgot to mention, i have broken many more tools that i decided not to warranty. namely reducers, 1/2 to 3/8s... i try not to use them, they always seem to break pretty damn easy.

i have also split a few sockets, but always had multiple of the same make/model. so they just end up misplaced and not warrantied. i do have a split proto deep that could be warrantied. not worried about it though.

I have broken a fair number of stuff over the years. Use to split 8mm sockets from changing ford swaybar links about once a week. I have different ratchets I have broke 5 or 6 times. I blew the guts out of my 24" dual 80 1/2" so many time, when SO upgraded the design, my dealer swapped out the ratchet even thou it wasn't broke at the time. Right now I breaking way more taps then I should. I have started useing real cutting fluid instead of normal oil and seems to be helping.
