What is a mini post style? No pin vises?

They look like a Blacksmith's post vise in the design (that weird hinged jaw movement) and are much smaller. One is a clamp in w 1-1/4" jaws, and the other has a bench mount plate like a post vise, but no post... :dunno: that one has 2" jaws. pretty small, I guess the figured no one would hammer on it at that size...

Pin Vises; several, but I don't think of them as an actual vise, although I guess they are... :lol_hitti

I also didn't count the Fly tying vise! :D

I have more than Autopts.....but less than Zoomie (and Outlaws). Demoman has bigger ones and Bigcaddie has smaller ones (so does Zoomie). SweetD has nicer ones and so does Banjosavestheday. I hope that clears things up.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Overall I have over 23 vises. I have 8 Wiltons, 6 Palmgrens, 6 Surburan (precision grinding vises/grinding vise & sine plate, both standard and compound) and 2 Record and 1 off-shore beater that is on a receiver hitch set up for my F250SD.

In the three shops I call home not including my work(I'm the only one in the shop). Home garage: 6" craftsman, nothing special, but then agin I do next to know work in my garage. Shop I have with my buddy: 2 6.5" import wiltons and the new king wilton. My family shop: columbian machinist vise and a pentenss( I'm so sorry I can"t spell) 6" and a rigid tripod pipe vise. I forgot I have a post vise up in the barn an old family friend gave my when I was a teenager for helping him move.

I think I have 5 vises, but only two or three worth counting. I had two more but sold one (import craftsman) to "fund" the big Parker I 'd just bought and there was a Parker 383 1/2 swivel jaw machinist vise I restored and gave to my new brother-in-law.

I'm beginning to think we need a "virtual tour" of all of TheGrooveKing's shop and tools, or maybe a contest of skills and tools between him and Outlaw of some type.

Probably around 15 to 20. I don't count anymore. But I am getting more particular as to what follows me home.

Count them you say? :headscrat I dunno, that might inadvertently lead me to acknowledge that I have a problem, and we wouldn't want that to happen, would we?

Besides, as I am fond of saying, the hunt for big game is never over. Even if I ever thought I had enough of the 6", 100+ lb. beasts, I probably couldn't stop myself from buying another if it was in good shape, the right price and something I didn't have yet. It's better than taking in stray cats, right? :dunno:

Up until a week ago, I only had 3 -- a 3" early Montgomery Ward, an old Craftsman, and a small Wilton. However, in the last week I have increased my collection by 4 -- including a Littlestown No. 25, Columbian D-44, a big old Reed in great shape and an Emmert Pattern Maker's Vice in nearly perfect condition. The best news is that I have less than $70 invested in the whole lot of them. The picture below is the Emmert.

No...it's not wrong. It would be wrong if you knew how many and had names for them.
However, you can now add 2 more vises to my total since I bought them today. One I had to send a flurry of emails off to Autopts about so he could calm me down. I was scared that I had more vises than Outlaws or Zoomie but he convinced me I was about 100 short of that number.

Prolly a dozen or so.........

A cpl standouts are:

8",Heinrich(sp),quickvise that lives on a W/T 20" production DP in cabmet shop.Got it free 'cause they didn't know/bother to adj the underneath adjustment.

Matched pair of Hilma,air/hyd units that live in our machineshop. These are especially nice(cpl K's $ each),theres a "setup" stage when you tighten them. You turn the handle to the first notch and it grabs part.......but,It gives juuuuust the right amt of grip that you then can,tap part into perfect alignment. You turn handle further to lock.Because of the air assist....when you are just spinning the handle, its like floating on a breeze, haha.Reckon its what you'd expect given the asking price?I got them on the cheap/cheap.

Definitely need more than one. I have two mounted on my bench one for general use, the other is installed with home-made brass jaws that I used for tools, auto parts... In addition, I have a heavy duty Columbian on the garage floor that I use as anvil sometime; or when I need additional leverage from the body weight. This one is mounted on a 2" hitch plate which can be inserted to the back of the truck in case friends need a rescue. What also found in need from time to time is a non-swivel base vise. Got an Athol 614 a while ago, but can't find any place to mount it, yet.:dunno:
