OK,..I am just curious,...how many Vises do you Garage Nerds own?

First of all I am talking about Machinist Vises, Woodworking Vises, etc. Not behavior vises.

My friends give me a really hard time about my relatively new hobby, so I am curious where I one rates in the world of Vise Obsession.

I will start it off at 57. Yep,..that's right I own 57 Vises. :shocking:

There are members here who own well over 100. There is a discussion that was started recently to quantify how many vises members own. You can find it using the search bar. Search for the title "How many vises do you own".

I use what I own, here's the rundown:

4 or 4 1/2 inch Columbian that sits on the garage layout table for rough use.
Panavise mounted in the center of the basement shop table for light use.
Clamp on 3 or 3 1/2 inch that sits under basement shop table for occasional use where palmgren is too light.
x-y vise that is bolted to the drill press most of the time.
tilt vise for use on the drill press as needed.
Small machinist vise that is used to hold things in other vises as it does not have system to attach to bench.
Gun barrel vise for holding rifle barrels for removal.
Record quick acting woodworkers vise.
Wilton convertible rotating woodworkers vise that I restored recently but haven't put to use yet, pending building a new shop (recently moved and don't have house/shop yet).

I'm surprised they add up to 9. I would have thought that the fellow that replied with 5 was into overkill territory already!

Four. One Chas Parker I bought at an estate sale, a Littlestown vice that was my dad's, a Monarch vise that was my grandfather's and a chinese made babco I bought from craigslist that gets beat on. A fancy Wilton would be nice, but I'd dirty up super quick.

Interesting post results in that the major numbers were between 2-5 vises. Counting my wood working and drill press vises made my numbers go up. I think I have either 14 or 15 altogether; nothing like the big monsters some guys have.

I use the one vise all the time maybe when I clean my man cave this spring I can sell off some of the very small ones and let someone else enjoy them.

6 or 7 here I'd actually have to go out and count, majority of them are machinists vices and I've got a northern tool bench vise on the bench.

I only have 5. But I use them all. I have no "shelf queens" and don't collect them just to have them.
But . . . . when I see a deal on a nice USA made vintage vise, I always follow up and try to buy if the price is reasonable. If I get it, one of mine goes on the auction block to make room.

5.5" Prentiss is a sweet find. I'm somewhere in the mid to upper 20s. The big guys I have are Rock Island 577, Parker 426, FM&V 13, and Reed 4C. All 6"ers, haven't found anything larger yet (not that I need one).
