Right now I have 3
  • One steel top "dirty" bench in the garage
  • One butcher block "clean" bench in the garage
  • One bench in the basement
Plus a rolling cart, a workmate, a fender stand with the Eastwood welding top, and two sawhorses with plywood that right now is my upholstery table

We're building a new house where I plan to have everything in one place. The benches there are TBD

Four benches.
Basement 3x5' = bicycle and some house related work.
Stationary Garage 3x10'= Whatever I want minus messy projects
Garage wall mounted folding 4x8'= Big projects that don't fit on the other wrench
Outside 3x8' = Messy stuff like grinding, cleaning yard equipment, etc.

I have 2 one in each section of my shed. I probably have less than a usable foot of workbench space..... It's shop cleanup as soon as this cold snap breaks. Going to build a new shelf and move a parts bike out and get a metal shelf for that wall.

Several just none are put together as there is no room in the basement with all of our junk lol 😂. I have an old desk I use as a work bench but we piled a bunch of stuff on it because me and dad maybe slight pack rats. Wish I had one set up though so I could have space to work and have a vise.

42" Toolbox with a 3/4" plywood top and small vise (currently removed)
24×72 Plywood and 2×4 rolling bench with medium vise.
24×32 plywood and 2×4 rolling bench (built to more or less the same specs as the 72" bench, so that I could potentially drop a miter saw in between the two.
32×48 rolling bench which will be disassembled, as it really didn't meet my expectations.

Also have a 80×25ish bench made of old seat bench lumber (approximately 2.5" thick) that's built like a brick **** house and holds a big-*** vise.

My work bench and my welding table which I still need to paint the frame and drawer fronts.. When I do wood woking I usually use saw horses and some oversized hollow core doors.

My shop is primarily for my motorcycles. I have one 8.5' long x 21" deep workbench with a 12ga steel top over 2x6 wood deck so I can weld on top it . I built nine pullout drawers under the top, and a long shelf under those. My MIG welder is at the end of it, with a 6" vise on the workbench. My other work "bench"/fab-cart is actually part of an old utility truck 24" deep x 54" long compartment mounted on casters, has a 3/4" plywood top on the steel, and an area that drops down a few inches with a 1.5" heavy lip around it, got a 4" vise mounted on that. My upright roller tool chest handles the hand tools. The fab cart stores all the fab tools/power tools. The tool chest and fab cart are on rollers so I can use them around my motorcycle Handy lift.

Eleven, between the basement, shed, garage, and shop. About 50’ or more total. Plus a Baker scaffold that makes a good portable / rolling bench / table a rolling HF cart and small portable welding table maybe 2 1/2’ square.

The shed bench and rolling cart are mostly for chainsaws. One short bench is for the 1920s post vice, one bench for the vibratory bowl and paint / body filler station, one is just a kitchen countertop on the lower level of a tall section of Menards Gorilla Rack. Also included is Formica top on top of maybe 10’ of kitchen cabinets on one wall. The Formica is easy to clean, but not good for heavy work.

A small one built over a couple of SBF engines is temporarily (for the last three years) dedicated to upholstery work for the Roadrunners new interior.

The four post lift holding the 36 Ford project at working level makes a good bench.

I really have to get a heavy steel bench top for one of the benches this summer. The welding table is all I can really wail on, and it’s pretty small.

Right now I have two. One is a six footer with a doug fir base and a cedar top that I use for reloading. The second one is an eight footer made entirely of doug fir and is going to be a general purpose bench.

I have a fixed

10' workbench against one wall
5' workbench on another wall

But here's the ticket...

I purchased one of the adjustable height Husky workbenches and it lives underneath the 5' workbench. I slide the Husky out when I need a workbench for its intended use rather than a huge shelf. I always have a clear bench available!

This changed my life

That's a great idea.

I've got an 8' adjustable height workbench with a butcherblock top that has been living in the house since new and an old wooden desk that's in the garage that I'm using as a workbench..
