Got curious as to how many wrenches I had, so I counted them (all I could find at the time anyways ;)) and counted 314.......
I know I have more in the house, tool bags, vehicles, etc.

I did a search to see if anyone has axed before, but didn't find anything.....So, I'm gonna ax y'all....."How Many WRENCHES Do You Have?" :beer:

I didn't count adjustable wrenches (they've got their own thread) and I didn't count specialty wrenches like the distributor wrench or the spoke wrench, but I did count the 2 brake wrenches (Pic #5)

Just your average DOE, DBE, Combo, Ratcheting, SOE, SBE, Line wrenches...(did I miss any? )

On to the pics.......:rocker:

Wrenches: Way more than I will ever need but not enough to say I feel complete.

May sound silly but I cherish my cone wrenches the most... they have gotten me out of trouble more than once. Probably why I have 3 sets of them.

Your welcome to come count them if you really need to know. I have not the time nor the inclination...

Ones that I use regularly A rough count yielded 150 might be few more that I missed tho.

If I had guess at how many were in and around the shop I’d say at least 500+

Gonna guess no more then 75, just a couple of extended metrics, one mostly complete set of standards, maybe a dozen randoms and a half dozen cone wrenches. Not a lot to write home about but I don't often find myself in need; except the other day when I could have used a 29/32 on an old fixture but squeaked by with a 24mm.

I'll have my Garage Attendant count them when he wakes up. I see two empty Mad Dog bottles on the workbench, so it could be a while...

Id say about 150 or more, most duplicates in different sets scattered
here and there. They keep growing too !

One 8-24mm set. One 1/4-1 set. One long beam double box end set. And 2 sets of stubbies. I prefer socket and impacts. Wrenches take too long

I understand the need for hydraulic work. But for automotive I will never understand the few drawers full of wrenches

How Many WRENCHES Do You Have?....

Ayuh,..... I Don't know, but I Do know it's twice as many as I should have,....
Probably well into the Thousands,...
If only my 3rd grade teacher had been Right back in '64,.....
She said the USA would be completely Metric by the end of the decade,....

I've got a Huge tool kit in my Garage, another Huge tool kit in my 4 ton portable toolbox, otherwise known as a F-250,....
Another Huge tool kit at the Shop I work outa quite often,....
A small tool kit in my boat, another small tool kit in each of my 2 houses,....

As Handy as I am,....
I start to get a sickly feelin' if I'm more than a few steps away from Tools,....

Not going to count them, but in my main box I have:
Proto combinations from 1/4" to 2"; backup set of the same to about 1 1/4";
Proto metric combinations from 6mm to 32mm; backup set of the same;
Proto long SAE offset DBE
Proto long SAE zero offset DBE
Proto long metric DBE; both zero offset and offset;
Proto short SAE zero offset DBE (there's only a few of those, they didn't make a full range of sizes)
Proto open end SAE
Proto tappet wrench SAE
Proto combination socket end SAE (saltus wrench)
SO double socket end SAE (saltus wrench)
SO 4 way open ends
SO short dbe metric and SAE
SO open end metric
SO long dbe SAE
SO and Proto flare fitting wrenches
Proto Spline reversible ratcheting in SAE and Metric
SK metric combo's to about 35mm
Proto 500 SAE to about 1 1/8"
SO stubby combinations

Assortment of the most used sizes of combinations in MAC, SO, Proto, SK Williams and maybe a few matco and blue point and USA Kobalt. These are individual wrenches that I like the configuration of, so keep them in addition to the sets.

Assortment of SO, Williams, Proto ignition wrenches; a wide assortment of them.

I'd bet they add up to 200-300 total.

Adding a postscript to discuss a bit:

It's really not about the number; it's about what you can do with them.

The range of styles and sizes gives me the ability to meet almost any need I have to remove a fastener. Some of those wrenches fill a narrow niche; but they allow me to do something that I couldn't if I just had a set of combination wrenches. And, some of them I just like. Examples of those are the short zero offset Proto dbe; I use those because I like the short, smooth configuration; perfect for carrying in your pocket. The socket end saltus wrenches are another. Not a lot of uses that a ratchet won't meet, but I like those wrenches and use them for that reason.

Quick count of what I keep at work and use regularly is 212. Almost even split between metric and standard. That's not counting any of the cut-up and modified wrenches which is another sizable drawer full or 50 or 75 maybe.

I agree with this ^ and would have put it the same way.

I also didn't count the 66 Crow-foot wrenches, which fit this idea. They get me through situation that no other style of wrench or socket can do.

To flipin many!!! I’m putting a bunch of them on eBay/Craigslist soon.

227 in my HF 44”. I suspect I’ve got at least another 100 between travel tools, junkyard tools, extra sets. My guess is around 350+.

As just an example, 43 pc Craftsman Professional USA, 43 pc Craftsman Raised Panel, 28 pc Craftsman Raised Panel 6pt. and 49 Gearwrench ratcheting wrench’s. That’s just a quick incomplete recap.

Between work and home i would bet in the 400-500+ category. I use lots of different wrenches working with hydraulics all the time and have my work set and sidejob set. Do you ever ask yourself "am I a hoarder...?"? Lol :dunno:
