It's not, but if your diehard about the name, maybe your willing to pay the price. Think about a $6000 car, your getting onboard computers, electronics, engine, etc... On the other hand, If you can use and store your hard earned tools in this for the next 30 years and make $$ everyday, is 6K really that much to spend? Its mostly in the name

That box is worth $2.5k TOPS.

Here is the "king" size.

It's not worth that much to me, but if it was a brand new KR1000 with the matching KR1200, it would easily be worth it.

"worth"
is in the eye of the toolholder :pimpflash

probably around that when bought new....

used, knock off 50% of list price for starters.

FWIW
limited and special edition boxes usually dont sell as well (or for as much) as a traditional red box

some early SO limited editions, ie: rick mears special edition, have held up in value over the std box of the same time period.

seems like a lot of special edition boxes are very well cared for, and the owner wants all his money back.

That gold trim is cheesy, It kills it for me. But if that don't bother you $3K cash is a reasonable offer.

That top is going to need shocks unless you want to use the Hacksaw Jim Duggan stick.

I'd go up to $3500 fo that set-up. The boxes are HUGE and likely kept in very nice condition. However before any money traded hands I'd have the seller get those top box struts and any slides it may need warrantied before taking delivery.

I have the smaller 10 drawer lower box like the one in the ebay auction.

My budget was $1500 and this was the cheapest Snap-On that I found after monitoring CL for awhile.

Remember this is a 1995 box so it is 18 years old. And as posted the color scheme is not the best.

I would keep looking for something more recent or this would be a lot of storage for ~$2500.

There is a difference in brands .you get what you pay for .and snap on is more durable for over the years of use .

Tool storage should be thought about as a % of the value of tools you need to store...

---------------------

$1,000 in tools? budget 200 or less on storage

$5,000 in tools? probably 1000 or less on storage

$50,000 in tools? OK, maybe $5k to $10K makes more sense at this stage

============

snap on is not really marketing to harry homeowner with <$1K invested in tools. Most pros need $5K min when you really add everything up. Established guys are going to have more tools and higher quality brands they've collected over the years. Huge shops are going to have $100K in tools being stored there 24/7.

It might be as durable but it don't mean you want one used for football practice. Just like anything else a lot of great used ones are used very little. Probably most guys going out of the way to buy a nice used one are not gonna beat the **** out of it either.
There is a price point they are fluid in the market for like used cars. They are all going to depreciate from new the most. I asked a Bud about a Burban he was driving, said who woulda thunk to give 20 large for a used car several years old and 100k on the clock and thought they got a deal.

I don't know as there is a set value but there aint no point in storing 1000 worth of junk in a 10 grand tool box. If you buy used it isnt likely to depreciate fast.
Its a free country. Buy what you like but if anyone wants an argument from me as to how it makes economic sense pretty much wont get it.

Both chests in those pics are expensive, they add up and no one is robbing anyone at those prices. You may have a need or want to have them but if it was in my own world would be inclined to get a couple HF44 to sit around the place and use the top as well as not need an extension ladder to get in it.

A lot of times just the lower KRL722 boxes go for $2,500-3,000 depending on your area depending on condition and what top it has. Having two 50" wide drawers is real handy, one for sockets and one for wrenches. The 18-21" deep drawers in these boxes are great for tool organization and space. The lower box alone weighs 500 pounds empty. Some of the cheaper boxes have cheap plastic drawer locks that fall apart, others have latches only on one side whereas the Snap On picture would be able to be opened from any position on the drawer. Also, since the Snap On ones are built with thicker metal, there is less need for "fluff space". Look at a box at Lowe's, sure it advertises 50" wide but 6-8" of that width is just the frame. A Snap On 54" wide box has a 50" drawer... While I don't really like the high price of them, you are getting a better box than you can get at a big box store or Harbor Freight.

I just sold this one last fall for $ 10,000.00.:rocker:

I got 10K outta my 1022 with one locker:rocker: :D ..and it was resold to a shop across the street before I took my tools out of it!

Edit: oh...yeah, I almost forgot...I only paid 10k for it to begin with....so how expensive does that make owning a SO box?

Older style box with the 2 locks and and the spring loaded wheeels, 3k MAX. Got a year old Classic 96 for 1200. if you are looking and not in a hurry, 60% off or more can be found. A guy has had those boxes for sale over a year on Craigslist for less then that.

My experience as a Professional Wrench (1974-2018 now Retired) is that whenever I wanted to to Upgrade S. O. would give me what I paid for the previous Storage Unit towards the Upgrade. Last upgrade in 2001 was from Twin Bank KRL 1000 Series (1987)? to a Red "year old" Triple Bank KRL Roll Cab with 22 Drawers, Stainless Steel Protectectors on the top front edge of the Drawers, foam drawer liners and a brand new Stainless Steel Top and a "dent" at one end at no additional charge for a thousand less than a "Bare Bones New KRL Triple Bank", it's previous owner (He really wanted Blue) took the Red KRL with the Shipping Dent at a discount. / Year later he decided He just had to have a Blue Triple Bank KRL). Red and a dent is fine with me. FYI: No, I'm not selling it or my Tools.
