I know this may sound elementary, but I would like some opinions on whether I'll have any trouble lifting my diesel Dodge Ram 2500 (regular cab) with a Bend Pac HE-9xw? The tag on the door of my pickup says it's 8800 lbs GVW. I have a fiberglass canopy on it and always have a few tools in the back. I haven't purchased a lift yet, but I sure do like the looks and latitude of the Bend-Pac lifts, although, if I can't lift my pickup with it I'll need to consider buying another lift. Thanks for your advice.

Assuming you meant HD-9xw their website says, "The HD-9XW is BendPak's 9000 pound lifting capacity four post lift."
The gross weight is with the truck fully loaded, the curb weight is quite a bit less - not knowing what year your truck is, according to the Ram website curb weights are less than 7000 lbs. Unless you have a ton of tools in the truck you should be okay.

Get your truck weighed so you know. My F250 has a GVW of 9400 lbs. The truck with me in it and two full tanks of gas is about 4800 lbs. Same situation with your truck the GVW is the max load designed to be carried including the truck not the weight of the truck itself. The lift should be from model number designed for 9000 lbs. Not a problem at your truck to be lifted. The big thing to worry about is front and back weights so that the truck cannot tip off the rack. You need to carefully follow directions of truck mfg and lift mfg so that you center the weight on the rack not just the length centered on the lift.

The Bend-pac is a four post lift, so the truck isn't going to tip off.

My 2004 Dodge ram 2500 quad-cab Cummins diesel 4x4 with lumber rack and shell on it, me in it, and a half tank of fuel weighed 6800# last time I weighed it.

I will say upfront that I love my HD-9.
But, I remember seeing at least one post in the last couple years with a member and a large HD diesel truck having issues with the ramps deforming on his Bend-Pak when the truck was up in the air. I also seem to remember at least one other person chiming in that theirs did so, too, when approaching the load limit.
Then again, with an HD truck, your axles are going to be awfully close to each end of the lift--right by the posts. I would think even getting close to 9000 lbs you'd be ok--but that's just conjecture on my part.
Is there a distributor nearby that might have one of these that you can put your truck up on, or a DMV nearby that might be able to weigh your truck? My heaviest vehicle is 5000 lbs fully loaded and even with a 300 lb scissor lift thrown in for good measure, my HD-9 is rock solid.

The HD-9 is rated for 9000lbs, with a minimum wheelbase. If you shorten the wheelbase, you need to derate the capacity of the lift. Somewhere buried on Bend-pac's web page I saw the list of wheelbase vs capacity for the HD-9. Seems to me for a very short wheelbase vehicle it was down to 7000lbs. I can't find it now looking quickly. I suspect that with the actual weight of your vehicle you shouldn't have any issues.

Min. wheelbase @ 75% capacity: 100" / 2,540 mm = 6750 lb capacity
Min. wheelbase @ 50% capacity: 85" / 2,159 mm = 4500 lb capacity
Min. wheelbase @ 25% capacity: 70" / 1,778 mm = 2250 lb capacity
Based on this, the capacity drops off faster than I thought it did.

Why not simply pursue a BendPak HD12 or HD14 instead???
I love my HD9 but if I needed a bigger lift for a bigger truck or RV (or bus), I'd just call BendPak. Heck, they even make a lift big enough to lift two cars at once now - possibly my next lift for my two 914's.

9000lbs is plenty for your truck. In answer to the question in the title. . .the Bend-pak HD-9 can lift 9000lbs. . .
Your truck is under 7500lbs with fuel and tools most likely. I would lift it without hesitation.
If in doubt, find a scale and get your trucks weight. Then you can be 100% confident.

I have an HD9XW and a Chevy Express 2500 van, I've had the van weighed on a truck scale with me in it, full tank, and all the metal shelving/cage (but not loaded with all my tools/cargo) and it weighed 6850lbs. I've put it up on the XW with tools and cargo inside probably adding another good 500+lbs or so and I've had no issues, the pump lifts it no problem as well.
If you plan to do lots of big trucks and have the space I might would look at the HD-14. But otherwise you'll be good with HD-9.

While I'm sure the HD9 would do it I wound up with an HD14 to lift my 3500
cummins cause I didn't want to have to think about this kind of stuff.
I happend to get lucky as I got an hd14 on clearance before the latest revision.
just wish I could swing an hd7 for it...
