You are lucky to be in the USA! My top was $660 CDN [3' x4' x 1" thick not ground (yet)] and another $350 for machine time for the square, 202 holes and 4 cut outs. ~2+ years ago. Another $250 for the 13/64" (0.234") wall 2-1/2" square flash removed tube for the legs and relievers, then another$80 for the 3/8" wall 2-1/2" angle iron. The wheels I bought years ago current pricing is about $50/wheel on sale. I have the rest I hope to finish it this coming fall. I chamfered and tapped the holes, yep I'm poor and cheap! Harry

4x8 1/4 plate is $700
Um...that seems a little high. 1/4 x 48 x 96 is 324.625 lb +/- a few ounces.

$700 is equal to $2.15633 per pound (Charlie-19'er Pricing a 15 months ago, prices have come down a lot since then). Currently we are buying at $0.65-.75 per pound. Sounds like they have a shipping charge attached. Find somebody that stocks 1/4 HRP&O. Our local suppliers stock it thus no inbound shipping charges.

Steel prices are outrageous. I built this small 24x36 to supplement my fixture table and use for automotive needs and assembly Built late last year and have about 350 in materials. 1/4 plate with 2 inch square tubing.

What I see on my local Marketplace is that they sell for roughly the cost of the top. If the top's nice a little more. Not nice, a little less.

Right now there's a guy on there who must be liquidating a business. He's listed a bunch of well-used tables. I don't think they're selling.

I built my 32"x60" fabrication table over 20-years ago. It has a 2" square tube frame with a 1/2" plate top. I only recently drilled the holes for fixturing and very recently removed the mill scale. In all those years it only has a few dents/dings from normal use and has held up exceptionally well as it gets quite a lot of use.

Material pricing fluctuates due to a lot of factors worldwide. It's also hard to pin down a set price for any material, as different vendors will price things differently depending on how much you buy, how often, what they stock, whether or not they bought high or low, etc.

When I bought my 48" x 120" x 1.25" A36, blanchard ground 4 or 5 years ago, it was $2k delivered to my shop. Just before the pandemic I bought a 48" x 96" x 1" plate of hot rolled with some laser cut holes and perimeter and it was just a shade under 1k. I bet they're both significantly more now. Grinding a large plate will set you back $800-1k, depends on how fussy your tolerances are and how big your plate is. The steel supply I use has their own grinders so it brings the price down as it's a value added service.

I don't think I could build and sell a 4'x 8' welding table and make any money for less than 3k purchase price right now. Depends on features, tolerance, etc.

I bought an old 1 from a friend yesterday for $100.00
Going to use it to mound my 48" box/pan break on.
Wasn't worth the labor/materia to build legs for what I got the table for.

Here's a picture of it upside down in back of my buddies truck.

Mike it looks really nice.

Just goes to show if you use a Weld Table and not abuse it, it will last a good long time.

Hit that baby with a Scotchbrite Pad and a DA!!!
4 FN 27, Wow that is nicer than my dining room table, what a sin to weld on that beauty.:geek:

Thank you! I am a Sinner...I will use it...but will not abuse it.

Maybe we can have a Garage Journal Thanksgiving Dinner served on my Welding Table?

Feel like this is a bargain. I'd cut it down. The leftover material would be about as valuable to me as the table.Screenshot_20230308-095113_Samsung Internet.jpg

No where close to what some of you have or have built but I got this table a year or so ago and I have found it to do a pretty good job for me on the race car build I am working on. I may build something better at sometime but for now it is doing everything I need. It was nice as it came with some hold down tools also. It looks like the price has gone up since I got mine as I remember paying around $180 for it.

That link doesn’t work, but I think this is what you have:

I have the wheeled version I got on sale for $265

I bought a 5’ x 5’ 1/2” plate to make a big table out of. I’m debating on putting holes in it or not.

How do you like it? Looks like an OK setup to me.

I'm going to build a big table but it's going to be in my storage building unless I'm using it. A little table like that one for small, quick jobs might be just the ticket.
I like it. I can roll it to where I want, then screw out the feet so it stays stationary. The clamping kit is perfect for a DIYer.

I like being able to clamp things down. I got a set of blocks and bolt those to the table so when making square corners on a frame or something like that, I can clamp the frame to the blocks.

I waited until they went on sale, then bought a second table. I put a piece of OSB on it and use it as a mobile bench. When I have something big to weld, I can lay it across both tables.

I think they’re good for a serious DIYer. I have no regrets.

I'm about 6.4999327 million pounds less a year than that  and I'm gettin' to where I need to replenish a few shapes, mainly 2" and 2.530" square tube, 2-3 sizes of angle, couple widths of 1/4" FB and a couple sticks of 1/2 x 6 FB - gonna be a big chunk for me, since I'm my ONLY customer these days - so if I charge it back to the customer it'd just be from one hand to the other - pretty soon I'm gonna hafta find out where the "onesy-twosie" price has gotten to... I am thinking about building a Welding Table, I typically use Pallet Beams to frame the top and a single piece of used 4” pipe for the single central leg. The last one I built the top frame was like a Capital H and the working surface was repurposed angle iron from bed frames. The base will probably be a discarded wheel and tire.

The surface will be about 24” by 36”. With an Arc Welder and imagination your possibilities are almost unlimited.

on welding table, the wheels need to be the jack up style so the table flat and steady

I got the metal for a new table and I dont plan on ever moving it, the top is 30 inches by six feet, one inch thick

Say one with a 1/2" 4ftx8ft plate top and square tube framing. I see them for sale for $1500-$2500 are people really paying that?
Yes! I watch the auctions pretty close and here in Idaho one that size would run $900 to $2000 every time.
