How much for 30' trusses?

I started getting bids for material packages. One was from a local supply house. Most of the materials seemed a little high but not that bad. Then I got to the truss estimate. It was $3,890. That seemed so far out of wack that I had to give it a double take. They span 30'. There are three different types. 3 end trusses, 13 room-in-attic trusses, and 11 scissor trusses. 27 trusses at $144 each. I swear I have seen just 30' end trusses in Menards ad for around $55. Does this seem really high to anyone else? I find it hard to believe I can frame out a 30'x48' garage (side walls) for $500 but just the trusses are $3800. I'm confused.

I was getting prices a few months ago and they were around $120 a truss.

Both types of trusses you mention are likely to cost more than a standard truss which is probably what you saw at Menards.

Why not get another bid on the trusses?

The cost of trusses has numerous factors to be considered. The roof pitch, are they made from 2x4's or 2x6's, olso depending on your location, snow load. Indiana, snow probably not an issue.

They are 8/12 pitch. Loading was speced at 40#sq.ft. I will be getting other bids. I wouldn't even think of paying those prices.

I'm looking at $200 per truss for my 32' trusses. They are attic trusses with a 2x10 bottom cord and 2x6 upper. A standard truss would be a lot cheaper.

I just bought 30+1+1 (30ft span, 1ft soffit overhang each side) cathedral scissor trusses last spring for $550 delivered. All 2x4 construction.

The room in attic trusses may be what's driving up the price?

I got three different quotes for my trusses, which are similar to yours. My garage is 46X28 with attic loft and two dormers, 2X12 bottom chord, 10/12 pitch. The quotes included the dormer trusses. The quotes ranged from $4000 - $4700. Guess which one I went with. It was a shame that the one that is less than a mile away from me was the most expensive.

I recently got quotes on trusses for a 28' W x 36' L garage in both standard and scissor style. The standard trusses were around $1800, but the scissor versions were more than twice the cost at over $3600. Much more economical to go for taller walls than the scissor trusses to get extra height unless you have municipal height restrictions.

Apples to apples man. What you probably saw on sale was something that was a "stock" truss. Maybe even a 24' 4/12 pitch with a 12" overhang.

You are asking for way more than those.

The quote you received doesn't seem out of line. Scissor and Room trusses are quit a bit more expensive (2x at least). I think you will find most quotes smiler. Good luck!
Thanks, Dave

From what I remember, any time you have a truss that has to support wieght, ie. attic trusses, it is going to be alot higher due to the structure degin of the truss and 2 x 6 not all 2 x 4s.

I recently got trusses for a 20 X 26 with attic storage and they were around $1500 and change. (12 storage trusses with a 2x10 bottom and 2x6 top chord and 2 gables.)

My total package for trusses was $2,500. That included the calcs (they did the submit with the county) and rooftop delivery (free). The span is 34' with 3' overhang and they are 2x4 construction. They're 4/12 pitch and no snowload in my area. They are not scissor either. The space is 34'x53' and it has a hip roof at one end that was done with prefabbed "trusses". The full length trusses were $89 each. Also I am in central California and most of the truss companies are absolutely deperate for work. The prices above were from a second truss company that was called at 4pm Thursday, showed up by 5pm, had calcs done by 6pm. The bid was given at 9am on Friday and accepted at 10am Friday. The trusses showed up with the crane Monday at 11am. In other words, location and economic factors may affect the price significantly.

I just paid $54 per truss for 32' 4/12 1' OH standard trusses, back when I was planning my barn I was thinking of doing an steep pitch with attic trusses, until I got the price for the trusses (~$175 ea), so I decided to go taller with a loft/2nd floor.

I'm planing a 30x48. Can I ask where you got your trusses from? We have next to zero snow load here in Alabama.

Call a local truss company and get another price....or build them yourself. I'll bet you begin to realize that the price isn't all that crazy after your time and your material that you will have in it.

You resurrected a thread from 2010, but since you asked nicely, I bought 36' trusses from Home Depot about a year ago. This was for an outbuilding on a farm, so ag spacing rules applied. I paid about $110 each for 13 trusses, delivered.

I was just at menards and a standard 30 truss was 62 dollars. to have a room almost tripled it. delivery was extra due to length they said.

Congradts on your retirement, things are different in the civilian world.

I got a quote from HD last year and they were much higher then the 2 local truss manufactures.

LS1 - did you / will you pull a permit? Reason I ask - after pulling my permit for my 38x60 shop, about a week later I got a postcard from a local truss supplier offering 10% off my first order. I compared quotes of 3 or 4 different suppliers and went back to them as they were cheapest - then I told them about the 10% off card and they honored it. I paid about $3k for 31 trusses - 2 gables, 8 scissor and 21 attic trusses.

Not totally sure on the permit.. The local County code is a little wishy-washy on what requires and what doesn't require a permit for a detached access structure under 2500 sf. and mine is planned for 2496 sf. once i add the second floor area. And they want plans and engineer plans for any trusses at the time you request the permit..

If this is in the wrong thread please point me in the right direction.
I found this other system that uses metal joints that large post/beams are joined together with. .
The company is called Socket Systems LLC. And the system is called Lumber Link (www.socketsys.com).. Has anyone heard of this or another company that does the same thing?

I can tell you this , I bought some trusses through Menards , yea they were a little cheaper than another place . But they meet code but that's about it ! They must have used what **** they had left over from another job because the bottom cords were the waviest things I have very seen
There was as much as 3" difference from the end of the cord to the center , we didn't notice it until we started the ceiling , what's a joke.
Mine are 30ft 6/12 pitch scissor trusses.
I saved $10.00 a truss with them and it wasn't worth it.
