OK - I'll give some for the warranty service & I realize the dealer's gotta get his cut. But do you think the dealer's price is less than $57??

I want to buy a premium product & don't mind paying for it. But when I see this; it's kinda hard for me to do that...I feel like I'm paying just for a premium name....

ETA: Now I've always known about "this" (same product-different name); but seeing it in black & white drives it home...

I doubt the dealers price is less than $57. Probably 30% off SO's list. The dealer doesn't get the benefit of the rebadging. This is a guess, I have no inside info.

let's see......

from my experience, you can buy online and save some cash assuming you have the money and then when you need warranty serivice your SOL. or you can buy from the truck make payment's if you can't afford to pay cash and get service after the sale. it's not just about what the name is worth. service has it's cost as well. i learned my lesson on a set of mayhew punches and chisels.

I dont understand that though...

what if i purchase a set of sockets lets say, and loose the paperwork, and change jobs. I have a different snappy guy. I break one of the sockets, cant prove i bought it directly from snapon yet its a snapon tool and it broke before it's "life" expired....

similar situations happen im sure, does the dealer warranty it or no?

Sears sells the same exact set for 49.99 FYI
I'm thinking of getting the Sears version since they warranty the pieces for life and it says so right on the package.
I'm curious who makes it. My guess was Hanson.

my guess is dim ping at the cheep cheep tool factory in china- the same place most name brand tools are made!
A school friend used to for a tool supplier and went to a factory in asia where they make the roller tool boxes- four of the leading australian brand boxes are made the in the same factory- made to the compay's specs on the same machines. he also visited one of the company's making spanners. punching them out like biscuts!

What intrigues me is why Snapon isn't putting U.S.A on some of their tools.

That's a direct result of the current President of Snap on. His idea is that Snap on is a global company and that it's not where the tool is made that it's important but, the quality that is built into anything with the Snap on name on it. I think it's a form of preconditioning so, that I won't notice that my Snap on tools aren't US made any more.:wtf:

I bought the kit from sears a couple months a go when it was marked down to 39 somethin i think it was, I couldnt justify spending another 60 - 70 bucks just to have Matco or Snapon's name on the box when it was the exact same kit

I've never had a problem with the 3 Snap-on dealers i've had. I'd tell them "I bought this off eBay, then i broke it. Can you warranty it?" and never once had a warranty issue turned down.

I thought Snapon didn't warranty taps and dies or drill bits, or these thread chasers?

Of course I know in some shops if they buy lots of tools anything is possible.

I bought the set from Sears, BTW there are two sets I think 42 and 48 piece, the 48 is a few bucks more, about $52 on the best sale I have seen.

Same here.

I believe that depends on who the supplier is for Snap-on. Most of that stuff is covered, as are screwdriver bits (the 1/4" hex style and the like). Mac replaces my broken extractors, punches, chisels, ect. Again, it can make a difference sometimes if you are a regular paying customer too.

What happy if the sticker is peeled off? It is no longer a snap on.

My set has the name molded into the case and so do the new sets on the truck. The tread files are stamped "Snap-on". I don't recall about the other stuff. I could look.

I have that same set from Matco, and I wouldn't trade it. I rarely use my tap and die set any more since I got it.

I just got the 48pc set from Craftsman, $68 with free shipping. Funny, one insert on the set says they are not warrantyable, but the other insert says lifetime warranty. I made sure to keep the one that says they are guaranteed forever!

This thread bothers me with you people getting 20+ year old wrenches warrantied.
My local dealer wont do anything for me since he thinks I slept with his daughter in law.(I didnt, she was a Sl** who was trying to get in my pants and I told her "no")
