how much is too much

a friend of mine gave me is old garage electric heater and it is in good shape and all , but its a bit big for my need... i would need about 5 or 6 kw but this one is 7,5 kw and wondering if its too big??? or as the old saying goes bigger is better ......is it worth the extra operating cost for less operating time??? please spare me the propane and ng is better lecture that was already ruled out long ago, it is free and work good.

Not too big if you have the an electrical supply that is adequate. Costs more to run.. yes, warms up the area quicker though.

i have a 100 amp panel and for now the bigess consumer is my compressor and its only 20 amp so lots of room there....but will it balance somewhere between the time running and time off from it being bigger, or as compare to a smaller unit that would run more often???

Simon what type of unit is it any chance of pictures . You might get lucky with it and it might have more than one heat strip in it if real lucky it might have 3 seperate 2.5Kw heat strips in it . I would say if that were the case it shouldnt be to hard to disable/remove one of the heat strips leaving you with a 5KW heater.

according to my research it is a stelpro shu serie its an old one when they where called chalair....and i will have to bouble check but i think it is a single element.... i will try to take picture of it maybee this w-e....
