Well.... I went for several years spending very little on a regular basis.

Then I joined here and found out how much stuff I "need". :lol_hitti

I don't necessarily spend every week, and sometimes not even every month. I bought and accumulated over a 25 year period, so there's not much in the way of hand tools, or small power tools that I need anymore.

That being said, I usually now save up for the bigger ticket items. This summer, I've bought a sandblast cabinet, and a 32" brake. Pretty soon, I'll buy a new motorcycle table-lift, and at least a 20-ton bearing press. And after the first of the year, I'll buy a small plasma-cutter. Most of the time, I'm also buying material to build other, general shop items.

I probably spend around a $100.00 a month but it varies some.

I've about reached saturation, so I spend very little other than on larger items. I knew it was time to back off when I would find a tool at a sale, come home and open a drawer to put it away, and find another one just like it. :wtf:

As much as I can get away with without the wife finding out. When I had my shop I averaged about 2-3 hundred a week. Now maybe 200 a month. I don't really need any tools. It's just an addiction.

If you averaged out how much I've spent over the past 4 years on tools.. It'd probably be $50-$100 a month.

Not too much recently, but if I average out this year so far it has probably been around $300 a month. That number should be going down unless of course I find a deal on a larger box before the end of the year. :)

about $150-$250 per week, and I usually keep about $25 worth a week, on average. The rest gets sold here or in a 2-3x per year yard sale, or to the guys in the factory I work at.

I try to make $100 a week, after gas & other expenses. It's not easy, but its fun.

I put about $200 a month towards my SO account to pay of my KRL. When thats paid off, it will be back down to about $100 a month for just hand tools...

Being that i already have a General selection of the common tools, My buying is based on the current Ebay/classifieds/fleamarket deals. I expect if i averaged it over a year it would be around a $100 a week.

Not so much these days.
If I need to buy tools to fix it, it generally gets out-sourced.
:headscrat maybe $500-$600 on my own ticket for 2010, $2500 +/- on the Co. ticket.

Hmmmm, well $10,000 (based upon recent tool inventory) divided by 40 years equals ~$4.81 per week. :)

Actually sometimes more, sometimes less, it's an average kind of thing. :)

However, I just went wild and spent $10 at an estate sale today, got five items.

aint that the truth...

i usually try to only spend half of my tips or sidejob money in a given week ..

i do appliances and kitchens so i can always justify tools and have often taken on a certain sidejob just because it meant i could justify buying a certain tool i would need for it but dont already have.....i'm 34 and have almost every tool i need at this point from mechanics tools to woodworking and really need a garage to take advantage of them all....

i knew i had issues when i recently went into my attic to get luggage and found a brand new 10" miter saw and barely used table saw i didnt realize i owned:headscrat

I wish my margin was that high.

I just had to spend $600 to get the rear brakes done on my truck.
Did the mechanic that worked on your truck buy tools from you? If yes, then good for you. If no, let's at least hope, now you have a potential new customer.:bounce:

My thoughts exactly. I don't really "need" anything, but "want" is another thing...lol

I even passed on a great deal on a No6 Record today, well I passed the ad on to my neighbor that has been looking for one.

I spend about 500 a week. My friends and family constantly tell me i have a tool buying problem until it comes time they need help and I'm at the ready. I just bought a power mig 350mp by Lincoln for 1800 because it was at a good price. (Now i have to sell my millermatic 150 and Lincoln tombstone.
Josh

Does anyone else family tell them they have problems (my family is serious when they say it)?
