I live in the UK and am about to place an order for a 2 Snap-On boxes (about £2000 worth in total).

Any idea about roughly how much discount (if any) a Snap-On dealer is likely to give ?

Thanks in advance ....

If you’re paying cash you should expect 10% to 15% if it’s not a promotional item. If he wants you to pay list price find another dealer.

The dealer can "want" list price plus a tip, what you can get it for is likely to vary all over the place. Given the economy I would look for nice used box.

I'll give you just one example: I bought my box in 1999 and it was listing for $3300 at the time ... I got it for $2200 cash.

It will also depend if he has the boxes in stock or if he needs to order them>

If in stock,You will get a better deal.

If not and they are not on any promotion. The deal most likley wont be as good.He is not going to get any deal on them if they are not on any promotion when he orders them.

I used to stock up on them when they were on a promotion. That way they were easier to blow them out to the customers at a reasonable price.

Yes, you're paying list price, but I can't remember if there's state sales tax involved; perhaps someone can pick up on that. :dunno:

There is supposed to be. From what I've been told, & have read many times, is if a retailer has shops in your state, then they are required to charge tax.

...or it's the buyer's responsibility to pay the tax direct, since the dealer is simply collecting.

Recently, someone got busted for that because his state required tax, even on his item purchased out of state via the internet. Some states are now doing the out of state sales tax thing. I think even Newegg charges tax to NY, for instance.

If you're going to end up paying list price (i.e. the dealer won't cut you a deal), order from Snap-On's website, and cut the dealer out.

No, the dealer refusing to haggle acts as a detriment to the local economy. Buying from Snap-On's online site is the consequence/result.

Why reward the dealer?

My Snap-On guy NEVER discounted anything from his truck.
One co-worker, who bought thousands of dollars of tools from this guy, asked for a discount.
When the Snap-On man started hemming and hawing.....he asked the guy; "Will you leave me some tools in your will"?
I think he got a discount.......................

I got about 18% cash discount on a KRSC40A + accessories and some small stuff. I expected around 10%, so was quite pleased. All I did was ask if he could do something about the price if I pay cash.

Since a SO box in your price range is still quite "portable", I'd check out other dealers that are not too far away, order it over the phone and meet the guy on his route.

Because you need him alot more than he needs you.

Who is going to warrenty that next broken tool or that drawer slide that comes apart in the next year?

Supposedly, according to Snap-On corporate, drivers/dealers are obligated to fulfill the warranty for all, regardless of where they purchased it...
