I outgrew my attached garage so I rented a 20' x 50' shop here in San Antonio several month. I'm in an industrial area and there are 5 units, all 20' x 50', in my building. Shop is new construction. Has a 200A box for the entire building. All the units have 125A boxes. My breaker panel has 16 slots.
If 200A sounds like it's not enough for the entire building, I'm the only guy who has set up a shop here. The others are generally using it for storage or maybe running the occasional tool on 110.
Right now, there are only a few 110 outlets at the back of the building, but there's wire running in conduit along one side.
I have two 24k mini splits already. I will need to power the following: 60 or 80 gallon compressor, 240V; Miller 211 welder, 110/240; Comet (Bridgeport clone) mill, 3 phase but I'll use a VFD. I'll add a lathe, stick welder, a TIG welder, and maybe a plasma cutter at some point. I'll also run the usual assortment of 110 stuff - grinder, abrasive saw, band saw, drill press.
Most of the stuff that needs outlets or hard-wired is in place, and I have a pretty good idea of where the other pieces will go.
It's just a one-man shop and I'm a weekend warrior, so I won't be running a bunch of stuff at the same time. I can always shut stuff off (i.e., air compressor) if I'm close to max capacity.
Questions -
Any clue what this should cost me? Just trying to get a feel for how much to budget.
Should I just look for a reputable electrician - no shortage of folks with 5 star reviews around here - or do I need to find someone who specializes in commercial wiring?
