How often do you really use deep sockets!

I use deep quite a bit. Out of necessity and sometimes out of habit.

Give the Gearwrench semi-deeps a try, in whatever drive size you use the most...

I love that set. I also have an old set of Craftsman semi-deep or "twiners"..between standard and deep well.

I guess i'm just the opposite from everyone else.
I always go for a short socket 1st.
especially if loosening/tightening a bolt head. an i'll more often than not use a 3" or 6" extention depending on what i'm doin.
now I will grab a deep socket if i'm trying to get a nut off a bolt or stud w/ any more than maybe 3 or 4 threads sticking out of the nut.
or its a acorn or other odd/deep nut

yes I understand that just grabbing the deep sockets will cover all this at once, but that's not what I do.
right tool for the right job.

Wow... I was beginning to think I was the only one....


I always grab a shallow socket first, and will only use a deep when it's
necessary for the reasons quoted above. I have also found that you're
slightly less likely to slip off a fastener with a shallow socket.
