How Often do you size the SDS relative to bit

My former small SDS Plu was a Hilti Tec7C. Still have it. It's a beast...
My cordless replacement is the larger of the M18 SDS PLUS with VAC dust module

Now I know one is suppose to use a -smaller- rotary like the SDS plus 5/8 for smaller anchors......

I never have owned both a smaller rated rotary and larger.

I know this is GJ forum, where some too wh0res reside. Does anyone here actually own a -micro and macro- rotary to use respective of the hole you're making ?

Have a Makita 1 9/16" SDS Max cordless Rotary Hammer. Weighs about 20 lbs. and used for drilling 1" plus holes and chipping/breaking work

Almost need 2 other smaller drills of different sizes besides that one

I have the M12 rotary hammer (not the fuel) and the 1 1/8 M18 along with a Bosch Bulldog. I don't think I have ever used the M12 do drill a hole larger than 1/4" and I don't think I have ever used the M18 for anything smaller than 5/16. I also don't think I have used the Bosch since I bought the M18.

I bought a Makita 1 inch SDS-Plus corded drill about 10 or 12 years ago and it has been great for when you need a big drill. I suppose a hammer drill would have more appropriate for my uses, but at the time, Makita had the drill with a 4.5" angle grinder for about $150. it was a good bargain. I bought a Jacobs chuck and mounted it on an SDS shank so I can use it in "non-hammer" mode as a BFD...love it.

I guess that doesn't answer your question, other than I guess it would depend on what you need it for...the big hammer and little hammer would cross over in certain applications, but in other applications, you would need the right tool for the job.

I have a hilti te7c and have used it for anything from 3/32" to 1" but I have never needed to drill a bigger hole. If I regularly had to drill drain holes in a wall, or holes for pipe, or was drilling big holes in like pool decking for inserting ladder sleavs then I would definitely go bigger (SDS max). But if all you do is drill for anchors then the TE7 or that M18 are really the same tool just that you don't need a cord for the M18.
