How often do your tool guys just disappear?

The Mac guy is the only one that has been coming by every week since i've been working at my current shop (5+ years). Snap-on and Matco disappear for years at a time and the Cornwell truck is a myth.

We have had all the tool trucks come and go over the years, some good, some not so good. But for the last 3 yrs we have just been using the NAPA guy as our tool truck LOL.... He is at the shop every day delivering parts / 55 gal drums of fluids, oils / supplys / etc . He can bring any kind of hand tool, or specialty tool you want with 2 hr notice, and handles anything that needs to be warranty for the guys. Brands / COO seem to vary, but everything the guys have bought from them seems to be decent stuff, and we get the same 20% discount the shop gets. Plus the guy really hooks us up, gave us a NAPA mini-fridge for christmas, and we are swamped in NAPA hats, jackets, coffee cups, ink pens, frisbees, etc.

I've been at my job 5+ years. Every Friday during that time the same SO dealer has come by my work without fail. Same for the Matco dealer on Thurdays. Both great guys. And we only have 3 techs at our shop. Never seen a Mac dealer around here. Cornwell dealer stops at a body shop across the street.

Back home the Snapon and Mac trucks show up like clockwork. I'm away at college and got a job up here at another shop. The Matco and Mac trucks show up regularly on Fridays. The snappy man not so much. I've worked here for 3 months, and have seen him once. I ordered some tools, bought a significant amount of tools off the truck, and he never came back!

I'm a diehard Snap-on guy, but my toolbox is slowly filling up with Matco (which I am very impressed with, quality wise). I have had bad luck with Mac in the past, plus its difficult to find anything USA made on the truck, so I generally shy away from them unless its something I really need...

I'm not sure why I see people writing that people on this forum always say how good snap on is. To me there is more bagging of snap on with don't drink the kool-aid type jokes and more praise for the Sears and Harbour Freight tools.

For me here the only way to get the highest quality product is to buy it off the Snap on truck or import it. The physical stores tend to have low to medium quality stuff with the occasional good items

Also my dealer shows up 12-12:30 every Tuesday, only annoying thing is his stock shows up Tuesday after he's left so you usually end up waiting 2 weeks for stuff.

Our snap on guy hasnt been here in probably 2 months, still in the area just doesnt come by unless someone owes him money. Mac guy quit last year and noone else has taken over. Matco disappeared a few years ago.Cornwell is the only one that shows up every week.

No SO again today. I think if he could KEEP a guy working for him, it may be ok. Also, I've never seen any other tool truck in my area.

Here in Germany we have NO SERVICE....SNAP ON Germany doesn't care much about customers...still they trying to sell old stuff in their promos like a solus pro or Cordless impacts with Ni-CD batteries....(instead of LI ION).

Asking a dealer via email for tools and advise...nothing will be answered....some guys are just working for 6 month in that franchise and will leave...here it's all different...you get the tools from your employer...(****!)

Once I got the message "I will come when it's worth it" means...they want higher bills...over 1500€....bad situtaion.

The guy he works for?? Sounds like you have 1 driver who has hired another driver to use because his route is too big for just the 1 truck. You need to find out who these guys were working for and deal with him. It is his responsibility to handle any accounts that his 2nd truck deals with.

had a Snap On guy that lived in town a while back but he has since retired.

his route was 2 towns over but if you caught him stopped at a gas station he would be more than glad to help you out. he did a lot of sales out of his driveway too!

I rarely see a Matco truck driving through every few months and Mac and Cornwell are never to be seen here!

I have always thought that truck tools are priced the way they are for the service that is provided by having the dealer come to you. If I was a proffesional mechanic, and had to start mail order replacement of my tools, I'd just start buying at Sears and NAPA.

BTW, at my old job, the Snap On guy showed up every second Wednesday like clock work and sometimes every Wednesday if requested.
