Hope no one minds me bumping this thread back up... One of by obsessions is organizing my tool box..lol I generally try and buy tools in a "set" with some type of storage case with them or blow mold case.... I find myself on the tool truck looking for tools that will look good in my box more so than I will use them...lol what can I say.... here are some pics if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve or better organize my box please feel free to chime in....
I also no longer keep any of my airtools in my box as they are too hard to organize and make look neat...and since its my personal garage and I am able to lock it up I like how easy they are to get to when they are hanging....

"How organized is your tool box drawers?"

Mine are extremely organized. I am a bit OCD. Nothing touches, nothing is stacked on top of one another. Everything has their place. Most drawers are put together like puzzles. All of the tools will only fit in one way. :lol_hitti if something is not properly placed or missing it will be extremely obvious. It is the worst part of purchasing a new tool. Trying to figure out where to put it. :D

Want to get on my $hit list real fast? Borrow a tool and don't put in back where it came from. Want a permanent spot on the list? Do it multiple times.

For once, mine is fairly organized, at least on two top boxes. I swapped out my work machinist top box (Craftsman) with my home mechanics box (Masterforce) so now all my machinist tools are in a matching Masterforce box, and my mechanics tools are in a Craftsman top and Masterforce roller.

The only part I am real **** about is the top. This doesnt move much but it can.

The real factor is "where" its at for us and the duty cycle if we are busy makes routine work fast if we want and dont cost, eat much if we are not.

This isnt pretty as many but has a good point about a layout and high usage of the same tools! I like the ideas here....simple and to the point!

What brand of sockets are those in the horizontal holder on the second drawer?

I used the foam camper pads, sold at wal mart they are pretty cheap, and they spray glue down ok in the box.

I bought the tool foam from HF and i must say it isn't worth it. I bought a pack from SO truck that was much more user friendly, but you pay for it....
I sold that box when I left that job.

My drawers part deux... I don't actual have anything in the mid section. I bought it last year and am not sure what I want to pull out and put there. I'm afraid I would have to redo most of the box. It's not the MOST organized ever, there are a few "junk" drawers. By junk, I mean too many little things to really organize. I hate clutter and these drawers give me heartburn, but I can deal with them for now. I also hate having wood working type tools in my box. Carpenter and speed squares do not belong I a mechanics box. However my garage is too small to have dedicated shelves and benches, boxes, etc for wood working things. Anyway . That's how my drawers are laid out!

ya I hear ya. but I got used to it. and like I said, it's a company policy where I work... it was either do it, or find another job.. (and apparently a few found this out the hard way)

with that said, when I shadowed my big rollaround it seemed to not hold as many tools. ie, no more racks for pliars, no spare hardware bins, etc.

but, my travel box seems to have doubled the useable space now that it's shadowed. the tools used to slam around and it would be a pain the **** to get the drawers open. the foam holds everything in place now.

Just out of curiosity, what is the company's reasoning for making everyone "shadow" their boxes?

I will give a few pics since I am the only idiot who can't figure out how to add more than one pic on an iPad.

Here's the socket drawers.

I joined this site 3 years ago and have gotten some good ideas here. It's nagging that I have never posted, so here is a collection of annotated pictures of various drawers in my garage.

I'm just a homeowner guy who likes to do some of his own home & car stuff. I build and fix computers for myself and others. I dabble from time to time in other things. I'm not OCD at the professional level but I do like having things semi-organized.
