How tall are hansen trays?

When somebody gets a chance, could somebody measure how tall hansen socket trays are? All three sizes would be nice, but if somebody would post one and somebody else another, Id be very appreciative. I cant seem to find the actual height of them, and I am curious as to whether I can fit them in one of my drawers. A new box probably wont come until mid summer, so I am going to have to manage until then.

Go to their website www.hansenglobalinc.com, they show all the dimensions plus the sizes accepted for each. I've been tempted, but it's alot of money for plastic, plus I think I'd have to many ampty slots, then I'd have to go fill them up.$$$. I like the Vim racks that use the rails and clips. More versatility I think.

I own 6 of em at the moemnt 1/4. 3/8. 1/2 metric and SAE and am watching deals for another 6. IMHO Worth the money. My only complaint is that I would like em to have 4 rows of pegs so i could mount 6 point and 12 point sockets std and deep all togther. The 12 points are what i am looking for the rest of them for.

I could fill up a definite 4 and possibly a 5th one in 3/8s. That tends to get a bit pricey, but I am probably just looking for 2 trays for 3/8s metric stuff... Impacts in one and Chromes on another. Ill deal with the regular racks for SAE because I use them so infrequently compared to metrics.

My local sears had them on sale a week or so back for $9.99 per rack. I picked up the 3/8" in SAE & Metric and the 1/4" in SAE & Metric. They were all out of the 1/2" drive stuff, my luck.

thetoolwarehouse.net has them for $9.25 each right now.

You're better off with the aluminum socket rails; the socket holders don't move around, they are very sturdy and are available in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 in blue, red, and black ... All my sockets are using these holders.

Who makes those? Where do you get them?

I have never seen those before. Can you tell me more about how they work, where you got them and how much?

Thanks

That's what I'm going with. I think they are worth the money.

Yep, this is where I got them; I've looked at all kinds of socket holders and these are the best. There is a set screw on each holder that locks down the peg so once you decided where you want the pegs, they stay. Excellent product and highly recommended ..

Those are pretty slick. The only problem is that I'd need 3 of the 48" rails to hold all of my sockets... There goes $150.

I'm planning (eventually) to build myself one that actually fits all of my sockets. When you have a complete set of 10-36mm sockets, in shallow and deep well, it'll fill a $45 socket rail in NO time.

My plan is to just get some 1/8" flat bar about 3 inches wide, and tack-weld 1/2" rod to it to space out my sockets. Same for 3/8" and 1/4" sockets. Make them run the length of my top full-width draw in my rollaway. :)

The deepest hansen tray is about 3.75" high. My full-width top drawer is 4" deep, and I can stick a 30mm deep socket on it (yes, I know there's no space for it on the rack), and it clears. Barely.

:)

These are the Vim racks I'm considering. The price is right, they look pretty well made. You set them up whatever way suits you.

I like the hanson trays but they don't go big enough in 1/2" drive. My sae sockets go to 1 1/2" so they don't do much good. For my 3/4" sockets I took about an 1/8" plate about 8x14 and layed all my sockets on there and marked it for spacing. Then I drilled a hole and plug welded pieces of 3/4 bar stock on there and works great. I will take a picture this weekend and post it on here. I like it so much that I plan on doing that with all my half inch sockets.

Hey... that's exactly what I described wanting to do. Glad you liked it, and didn't find some glaring drawback that I hadn't considered. :D

Oops ... just checked; I have 9 rails ...

Here are pics of the socket holder that I made. I still need to make handles from either 1/4 or 5/16 round stock and paint it.
