I use Kreg screws. They've been okay. I have a large batch of Robertson drive wood screws, and I've had nothing but trouble with them. I tried to use them on concrete forms, and they wouldn't work. The heads strip out. I've also used Robertson drive tile backer board screws. They eat bits, I think doing my last house I ran through more than a 20 pack of bits on about half a 600 sf job. Dewalt bits, was part of the problem, plus just a demanding application, plus my Son helping and he's not as skilled in use of the screw gun. Finally went down and bought phillips head ones instead, and did the rest of the job one one Zephyr phillips #2 bit. It cams out on refusal instead of holding and stripping.
I don't have a lot of problems using Phillips screws. I do go through a few bits, but I buy Zephyr driver bits and that's cut way down on the stripping out problem. That, and using Snap-on #2 screwdrivers. They do need replaced periodically as they get worn from slippage.
