How thick is epoxy floor coating?

I have been thinking about an epoxy finish for my new workshop/garage floor. How smooth does the concrete surface need to be so that imperfections and trowel chatter marks in the cement do not show through when completed? My floor has many visible chatter marks and I'm wondering if the epoxy coatings might possibly fill these in and leave a smooth finish. If I do decide to do the floor, then I would like to do it in bright red solid color with no flakes. Thanks for your thoughts.

I would think not. Most epoxies are just a few mm's thick. I would think you would have to use some of the different fill products that the epoxy companies sell as a prep for the epoxy. Different companies make different products for just such problems. Determine which epoxy manufacturer you are going to go with and see what they offer. I used UCoatIt and though I didn't need these types of products their video demonstrated the use of these fillers. It looked pretty slick.

The thickness wont cover imperfections, but flakes make minor imperfections tough to see

I agree not only with this statement but in the long run make wear and tear much harder to discern also. Flakes are the way to go.

the key to hiding imperfections of a solid color epoxy floor is to use a high build epoxy product such as Durapoxy from Dural. but this will cost you. Gearhead and Snorvet are correct in stating flakes will hide imperfections.
