How to attach a lean-to on a pole barn?

Can someone direct me towards info of doing this? I have a fairly new 30x32 that I'd like to put a lean-to on the side like I've photoshopped into this photo. bdf5d231be93d5b27041f55f62ed7346.jpg

like this Built in 2008, many 30" plus snowfalls later, hurricanes etc

Basically, you need to be able to attach a 'ledger board' to the side of your building (or you could use more posts and make it 'free standing')

Around here, people call those 'Patio Covers' and there is a lot of info online regarding proper rafter sizing, footings, etc. Whatever roofing you are going to use will dictate the slope of the roof and your location would also effect the specs
