Moving floor to ceiling wood cabinet to another room. This a one piece 24 X24 now laying on floor. I need to know how much to cut down cabinet, in order to stand up. This is difficult to explain but I know you can't stand a 7ft. cabinet with a 7ft ceiling.

are you trying to say that the diagonal distance between corners is more than 7' so that it will get stuck trying to rotate it up? If so maybe someone has tricks but if you can't take it partially apart and put it back together, then I would think that the diagonal has to be less than 7' by a fraction. Measure the floor to ceiling in several spots to see what it really is.

I would think that it would be less than 8 inches. But I am not a math wiz.

Your avatar? Where did you serve? That was my patch 2. 11Bravo Hotel Charlie 6

why not just measure it diagonally, that will tell you how tall it will be when you try to stand it up...........what ever the measurement is more than the 7' thats how much you need to trim it

I think you are missing a dimension in there, or I'm not understanding the 24 x 24 so I'll take a guess at this. I am assuming the cabinet is 24" deep and 7' tall x 24" wide? Correct?

If those are the dimensions, then you need to cut off approximately 3 3/8"

You might be able to cut it in the toe kick area and patch it to hide the modification. Usually toe kicks are about 3-1/2 inches high.

A further question. Can you stand it up infront of the soffit, and then slide it back?

If you're any good with drywall repair you could cut out a big enough section in the ceiling to allow you to stand it upright and then fix the hole. Might be better than damaging the piece.

Just to make sure you understand, you only cut off 3 3/8" from the back corner to make a rounded corner to stand up the cabinet.

Why not measure diagonally from one corner to the other on the axis you want to stand it up? Same answer as the square root of the sum of the squares...

And we though all those math classes were useless :)

How about cutting from the top and adding a nice heavy crown molding up to the ceiling after it's in place.

Got her in, 2nd try, needed one saw blade width on one corner. New textsured ceiling made it one hair off. Thanks for all diagrams & comments, all were helpfull. And not one mark on new ceiling.

I have seen Forrest Gump many times. He gave the best description of "Rain" I have ever heard. And trust me, he nailed it down. BTDT
