How to calculate square footage?

I'm bad at math... can someone give me a basic formula so I can calculate the square footage of my garage?

Length X Width

Mine 32X40=1280 SQ FT

Length times width equals square footage.
Length times width times height equals cubic footage.

& most everyone does it from the outside before the garage is built....do it from the inside - that's your useable square footage.
