My sump pump failed a couple of weeks ago, flooding the basement. I crawled into the crawlspace and tapped on the exhaust pipe. The pump immediately turned on and emptied the sump pit.
The same thing happened this morning. After nudging the pump, it started and has worked a dozen times since. Now for another day of vacuuming up water in the basement!
I think that the problem is the float switch integrated into the pump. From what I've read, electronic pump switches are the best and I'm ready to install one, but how do I bypass the float switch to allow an electronic to take over control of the pump?
