We put a porch on with our shed. This space was above it so put down some plywood and a great place for light weight stuff. I am trying to figure out best way to close it. I don't plan on heating it. There are a lot of creative people on this forum😁

Thanks

I 2nd the idea of sliding doors. Add an outlet and a cheap LED light inside also.

The sliders are a great idea. It ***** having to go up n down just to open a hinged door all though that probably wouldn't be the case with accessing that area.

Don't ask.
Are you planning on heating the rest of the building or just wanting the storage covered.
Simple curtains would hide the storage area.

Heating the rest of area.

Have you considered doors hinged at the top? An insulated panel hinged at the top and having a couple of air springs to assist like a rear hatch on an automobile. If you really want fancy then use a small air cylinder to open and close the door with a control switch at the appropriate height.

Want to go really wizzy, frame in car door or hood over the opening.

Being in Chicago, if you are going to heat the rest of the space all thru the winter, whatever you use to close off that section will need insulation...otherwise heating bill will costlier than it need be and you will get lots of condensation on whatever is stored in there.

Yes that is part of dilemma of what I clae it off with. One thought is cut 2 inch foam board to fit tight. Use sliding doors to hide the foam. Once stuff goes up or down from there we don't use it but spring and fall

I would get the tri-pointed threaded "T- nuts" designed for putting a machine thread into wood. Make your panels go up and down with something like 1/4-20 hex bolts. Then you can make the panel insulated, e.g. glue up 6" of foam behind the panel if you like, and screw the panels tight to the framing. Can even put weather stripping behind the panels for better sealing. The machine thread should be good for many many years of use without wearing out like a metal screw directly into the wood.
