I helped a friend temporarily set her new convection wall oven in place this weekend. The new appliance is a Fagor convection oven, 240v/15a with what looks like a 12/3 SO cord out the back (no plug.)
The old oven was larger, and while the cabinetry gets sorted out, I just used the existing wire nuts to connect the new oven temporarily. This circuit is aluminum wired (6ga?) with a 30a breaker, and I'm wondering what the appropriate way is to make the new connection.
If I install a 20a receptacle in the box and use a 20a plug it would be more convenient to put the oven into its cramped (but properly ventilated) location. I'd also swap the 30a breaker for a 20.
What receptacle do I need (20a for relatively large Al wire) and am I correct in using 20a receptacles, breaker, etc. when the unit is rated right at 15a?
Thanks for any info
