Hey guys I need to take about 1/2 inch off the end of a 1/2 drive kobalt socket tray. These are the Hansen look a likes. I need to do this to make it fit the way I want in my HF44.

I'm worried about the plastic shattering. Anyone done this with success?

Thanks in advance.

Sheet metal snips or Dremel should cut whatever.
A cutoff wheel in a HF air tool or a Dremel will cut almost anything and if you're patient it probably won't shatter anything.
Try different speeds to avoid the melting plastic problems.

I used a cutoff wheel. Melts right through it. You actually had to think about this? :)

I would try a heat gun then some type of saw (you could use masking tape to get it straight). A "heat knife" (I've never used one though) after heating would probably work as well. That would be a CLEAN way of doing it.

If you have access to a miter saw, turn a finish cutting blade around and install it backwards on the saw. Works like a champ on vinyl fencing.

Haha yes I did. Stupid question I know but didn't feel like spending $15 dollars on diesel to go back to lowes for a $5 tray. Thanks again.
