This is my first post, I've been lurking on the sight for quite a while. I finally got the go ahead to start my workshop. It will be 3456 sq foot, and I have been shopping for a supplier for radiant floor heat. The problem is, everyone's opinion is different. Different suppliers suggest different items , like 17 loops of 1/2" tube, and another 7 500' 5/8" loops, and another 7/8" tubing. I don't know what is best, how do I decide?

I paln on heating the whole shop as one zone. Anyone have any input?

Thanks

Mine is not as big as yours - only 900 ft^2. I used Blueridge and put in three 280' loops of 1/2" pex. I'd think you'd need about 12 loops of 1/2" pex each loop being 270 to 300' long. All I did was scale up my area to your. The people at Blueridge were very helpful. I rented a stapler and bought 1/2 staples from them and stapled to my insulation board. I did mine in about 4 hours or so.

Get a copy of Zurn's "Radiant Heating Design and Application Guide".

It will walk you through the design process step-by-step. All the necessary tables are included to calculate flow rate, temperature differential, floor temperature, insulation, etc.

Just read and apply.

I think I've already read through that manual, I'll have to check it out again.

I think I'd like to go with a 5/8" tube (or maybe the 7/8") to possible consolidate the number of loops. Of coarse, I may be wrong in thinking this.
