Just acquired an old Kennedy box. Pretty rough shape and multiple colors. I cleaned it all out tore out the old felt. Removed the drawers and found the original color is the rough Kennedy style paint, but green like SK. Anybody got any ideas on how to duplicate this paint? Also, needs a new front latch. Picture is the same style that I've got. But, found the pic on the internet. Thanks for your time.

I'll save you the trouble, that box is not supposed to be green, it's supposed to be Kennedy brown winkle. The way you paint brown winkle is a single heavy coat on clean hot bare steel.

The brown wrinkle paint is still available from Kennedy, but is expensive ($23 can IIRC.)

I got a real good match by using some black wrinkle paint from the auto parts store and then over painting with Krylon "Leather Brown". You should be able to do the same with a green color for your second coat. Rustoleum has a BUNCH of shades of green. If you find which one is a good match, please post it for reference.

BTW, I have several Kennedy hand boxes that are green, so if you want it green, go for it.

Look inside at the tabs that hold the handle on, loosen it, then see what color of paint is underneath the handle. I've had Kennedy boxes for 40 years and that is the very first that I have seen that is green. Any Kennedy Machinist box I have ever ran across is Brown Wrinkle. The Mechanics boxes come in a few different colors, but the machinist box has always been brown as far as I know.

Actually the box is original I have a green kennedy and it came from a caterpillar machinist. The old three drawer kennedy boxes were painted green wrinkle finishes. And they came with green drawer pulls which are on the OPs box.

I stand corrected. In my most wildest dreams, I would've never imagined Kennedy making a green box.

I had removed the drawers and the broken latch. It's green inside and under. Thought it was kinda cool. Never seen a green one till I looked for a picture of this one. I have no idea what year it's from or what model no. it is though. Thanks for the help guys. Mike

The kennedy box has all square corners so I think it would be safe to assume the box is pre-1950 but that's kind of a rough estimate.
