How to fill gaps in cement board?

In the process of building my 40 by 60 in middle Georgia. Exterior is cement board and cement trim.(Hardie Board).

On the garage door trim there is a gap between the face trim board and the 1 by 10 trim board on the side of the garage door. The gap runs about 5 ft long and at its widest point is probably 1/2 “ wide and about 3/4 inch deep. I thought about just filling the gap with caulk but was wondering is there is a better product for cement board that I could use to fill the gap with that would look better than just using caulk. Anyone know of anything that I could use that would perhaps finish off with a better look than caulk?

thanks

Some pics would help but cement board gets caulk. Where it is deep use backer rod.

....after it's painted.
Read the warranty and installation guidelines on that stuff. It's not waterproof nor cement. (like you'd normally think)
Can you correct this gap by carpentry means? Those are bigger gaps than caulking is intended for and despite my remarks above, you don't want water in or behind Hardy. Usually " jambing" a garage door you have some room for error behind the vinyl trim with the flap allowing you to create a perfect joint where whatever face trim and the jambs.

I looked at possibly redoing the board but it doesn’t look feasible. The Hardie panel under the face trim board sticks out also and causes there to be a gap where the two pieces of trim meet. It is very difficult to find good framers and finish guys around here because of the construction boom going on. You kind of have to take what you can get and I didn’t get the best.

I've had fantastic luck with NP1 polyurethane. If I'm painting it I always look for the tubes with the newest date of manufacture, regardless of color it flows easier when it's fresh.

Can you post a photo? 1/2" wide - I'm probably figuring out PVC or Hardie trim.. I'd need to see it.

stuff foam backer rod in there and caulk it properly. Read up on proper depths and thicknesses, as illustrated in the diagram post above.

/that's a sloppy install

I agree. Around here very difficult to find framers/finishers who are worth a d**m.
