Hello Everyone,

So I have a 50 year old Kellogg compressor I would like to rebuild. I found a place that sells the replacement cone and roller bearings (looks like a regular trailer wheel bearing) for the crank shaft but they want $110 each for them. So, I thought maybe I could find a chart of standard production bearings with dimensions and cross referance and find a Timken or other brand that is the same demension. Are bearings used by manufactureres usually standard sizes made by bearing companies that manufacturers use in their products or are they probably custom and you have to buy thier replacements because no other will fit?

Thanks for any advice - Lenny B

Any reputable bearing supply store should be able to match it up with no problem. If you have a caliper you can measure the bearing ,you will need outside and inside diameter and also height.
I’m in Cincinnati and have been using a company called Bearing distributors for over 30 years.
Try to find bearings that are sealed on both sides to keep dirt and dust out unless they are oil bath .

A more specific location would increase the odds of someone being able to help you. If you're in the US near a city there's probably a Kaman Industrial Technologies near you. If so they can hook you up.

I was hoping there was an online chart somewhere that showed: OD's, ID's, and Thicknesses so I could get a part number and maybe who makes that size bearing?

Did this recently for an application that I didn't even have an existing bearing to compare to. I simply googled bearing size chart and found several examples online. I would post a link, but my browser history has been cleared since doing that.

Good Hunting, do you have the model number of the compressor?
As others have suggested, go to a Bearing Store and ask for information.

How bad are the bearings? If I remember correctly one of the bearing surfaces is a taper on the crankshaft. I am all for replacing old sealed beating for old age as the old grease has long ago turned to rocks.

My Kellogg’s bearing were swimming in oil. I would not replace them unless I could see surface gulling on the rollers and then I would need to have a very hard look at the crank shaft.

If you have a Motion Industries branch nearby, and you should being in Detroit, you can take your old bearings in and they should have them or can get you them the next day. Pretty reasonable prices

I recently got bearings from Bearingsdirect.com by simply looking for the dimensions i needed. They werent expensive and were quality bearings. I recommend them.
