Hi,

First time poster here with a question on how to finish a ceiling.

Background: I have a 40 x 40 attached garage/hangar with a 13' high ceiling. The roof is supported by trusses which span to a peak of roughly 22'. There is a large clerestory window on one side. The roofline has been spray foam insulated.

The question: What have other people done to finish the roofline surface above the truss framing (and leave the painted or stained trusses exposed)? I don't want to install a drop ceiling or drywall the horizontal surface because I don't want to cover any part of the light that comes in from the window. I'm looking for ideas.

Thanks in advance
Gary

One thing you have to consider is that you can't leave the spray foam exposed like that, it has to be covered up per fire codes.

You could apply a coating to the spay foam to fireproof it and just leave it at that to get the most out of the window..

You could also spray the trusses white or light grey or something similar to lighten up the ceiling and make it feel brighter.

May make more sense to lay plywood/metal sheets as the ceiling for the major portion and box in the windows in a skylight effect. That paint is expensive and not easy to properly cover foam.
