How to Frame Door

Here we go again.I am building 28x32 garage.It has 8 ft. walls. Going to stick build roof with 2x8s and collar ties 2 ft.above walls giving me a 10 ft.ceiling thanks to peoples help here.Question is now I have to build wall that has garage door I would like to use 9x8 door because a 8x7 is $260 and a 9x8 is $315 but how do I build wall 8ft. and mount header above wall?I know Its hard to understand me and how I explane things but maybe someone will know what I mean.Thanks for all the help.

guys, go to lowes or home depot and get a framing book. It has tons of drawings and all that will help you understand the basic framing.

for what it's worth, I don't think you can easily use a 8' tall door on a wall that is only 8' high. you need to have space for the door to roll up. If you went with a bi-fold door, it may be a possibility.....

What I think you'll need is a 9x7 door for an 8' wall, or put it in one of the gable ends of the building with the header built into the plate on the end and the joists/trusses modified to clear the door as it rolls up. The collar tie setup should do it for clearance.

One way might be to bring the wall on that end to double studs at the width of the rough opening, then build a 2x12 + 1/2 ply sandwich about 12' wide - at least wide enough to cover the opening plus over the next stud on each side. Set that on the plates and that should roughly be the upper part of the opening. Hammer to fit and bend to suit.
