Have a f712 ratchet and removed the 2 screws out and the plate won't come off. Any suggestions?

I can get most off by just backing the screws a couple turns then tapping them to drive the plate off. If that doesn't work I use the vise to lightly grab the drive end and rock the ratchet head side to side till it comes apart (just be ready to catch what may fall) should work if the housing isn't too badly peened against the cover plate.

Thanks I just hit it on the workbench and it came off , my only other question is how do I keep the bearing on the spring when I rebuild it ?

I took a cheap pair of tweezers and pulled them apart. Then I took one half of them to make a large Z shape. You use one end of the Z to hold the ball/spring in, let the long middle section of the Z run down the ratchet handle to hold it close and the opposite end to apply downward force. Slide the pawl over the top and pull the homemade tool out.

While looking for a pic of the tool I found this https://somanyhobbies.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/snap-on-ratchet-rebuilds/

I made a tool for this by using thin springy metal and some duck bill tin snips. I find that the metal from a slide switch removed from an old ican flashlight worked OK.
