Just got my new compressor from Nothern Tool and it came with the compressor on a small pallet strapped to a big pallet. This a 60 gal 5 hp compressor weighing over 300lbs.Anyone have any ideas on how to get this off the big pallet I don't have the height in my garage for an auto crane.

Walk it off, but before doing so get the casters/wheels for it so you can move it around. Add them one at a time till they are all on the floor.

If you walk it off, make sure you have at least two people to do it. Compressors are extremely top heavy. Lose control and you will be buying another one.

Can’t picture a ceiling so low that an engine crane won’t work. Local rental yard should have one.

Don’t try moving it off the pallet alone. It’s very top heavy and unstable once tipped a little.

Own an engine hoist?

If not, get a few people to help walk it off. Maybe have it strapped to a joist loosely in case you loose control.

IF you decide to walk it off... keep the compressor bolted to the small top pallet and walk that configuration off first.

I used a block and tackle and suspended it from an A-frame in my roof. You only have to take the weight off enough to pull the pallet out, then you can lower it to the floor. I did this where the compressor was going to be placed.

If you have a 2 post car lift. You can slide one lift arm from each column under the compressor pump mount that is welded to the top of the tank and can lift the compressor slightly to remove the palate.

Photographs? Is there room for a board or boards under it and above the pallets? You could strap it to those boards and jack each side of the boards. I'd strap it well and have someone steady, hold the top while you install the casters and remove the pallet.

I have used two of those ratcheting straps on double 2x4 to lift a full cast iron bathtub... and suspend it up in the air for months till I finish the sub floor and drain below... pretty sure you can build something with a couple of 2x4s and ratcheting straps... pretty sure that cast iron bath tube is more than 330LBs... more like 1000LBS...ok maybe 500.. but you get the point...

My 80g 7.5hp was 800+ lbs on a single pallet. I used my 2 post lift to get it up, then put 2 moving dolly's under it. Rolled it into the closet, then used a floor jack between the dolly's to get it up enough and roll the dolly's out. Lowered it down onto hockey pucks and was good to go.

Just a word of caution. I'm sure StRacerDuke vented the closet but compressors generate a lot of heat. Confined poorly vented spaces will greatly shorten pump life.
