I’m using LP smartside siding in the interior of my shop. When installing the panels in an inside corner should I just **** up each panel against the panel on the other side of the corner or should I rip a 1” piece of lumber to install in the corner and then **** each panel against that 1” corner board?

Thanks.

Which ever way you want. There is no right or wrong way.
......but often the less you do to something, the less it draws your eye to it and it goes away.
Being inside you don't have weather concerns so it's all just appearance.
When butting the corners the worst thing you might have to do is a tapered cut down the side to level and close the joints to caulk tolerances. 👍

For interior, I'd go a little tighter than the 3/16" that LP specs for exterior work.

I think I would run one into the corner, then scribe the other to fit, if necessary, targeting less than 1/8". Caulk and paint

in the mid 80's I did a family room for a70ish yr old couple. he was very particular with what they wanted, did 1/2" Oak panels with a chair rail.. no trim in the corners . planed to scribe fit them. stairs were also chair rail with panelling below... no trim where the panels met the stringers . it took a lot of time but end result looked nice .
