I am a big fan of air circulation through the house as much as possible. I have a couple of large double-hung windows in my living room, and I try to keep one cracked (or wide) open at all times. Of course, when it rains, water will blow in and that's never good.

I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the window up a little bit, while also keeping the rain out. I did a Google, and didn't see much at all. I figure if anyone has a great idea, it will be someone on this forum. I was contemplating covering the bottom half of the screen with clear plexiglass, perhaps just glue it onto the screen. That way, I 'should' be able to keep the window up a couple of inches and if any water did blow in, it would hit the top of the window and then run down, draining to the outside????

Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks very much!

I’d go with the awning recommendation and open the top half of the double hung window.
This should work the best, as long as it’s not painted shut like many older double hung windows.
Do you have some locking mechanism for the partially open windows or can somebody just pull the screen, lift that window up and crawl into your house?
