How to long term store screwdrivers?

Probably overthinking this....

I picked up the Snap On clutch head driver set a while ago.....for the day I get a vehicle that requires them.

I'd like to wrap 'em up and store them.

I was going to wipe them down the shafts with some Tri-Flo, wrap in Saran Wrap, and put in a small box. Leave them in the back of a storage drawer in the shop.

Sound good?

I don't want to unwrap the drivers in 10 years and find them rusty.

If you wanna be fancy, spray the shafts with some fluid film and vacuum seal them with one of those food saver thingy

But I can't help but think he's not gonna need to pull these out in 50 years and bring them to war.. If you really wanna go crazy, you can throw them into a ziplock with some dried rice, but consider that everyone might think you've gone a bit far..

Snap on had a hard time with those hard handles.
They decompose at various rates, would not worry about the shafts I would worry about the handles.
My snap on guy has a few sets in his garage I have one set on order with him when he finds them.

Those are mosin nagants in that picture.. I have one that my great uncle brought back with him (and 2 other foreign rifles) - has no import numbers stamped onto it.. Bought another one from a surplus dealer for like $130.. It's amazing you can get those things, and the ammo so cheap. ESP considering it's a 30 caliber rifle..

I have tons and tons of screwdrivers by every brand. Stored in tool boxes, my trailer tool box, truck tool box, sitting on work benches, laying around my garage, etc and none have ever rusted or anything. Leave them out in the rain and snow, yes they'll rust, but I really think you are over thinking it.

Rumor has it GM invented this screw in 1927 and it was in use at least into the 50s.

If they're old enough to have CAB handles, wrapping them up in any way will actually make them decay much faster. They're screwdrivers dude. Put them in a drawer and forget about them until they're needed.

If you insist on storage, wrap the shanks in wax paper after a light spray of lubricating oil (WD 40)

if they are chromed, I'd just store them in an area that is dry and not exposed to any outside weather.

Although, Im curious what kind of vehicle you're interested in getting that still has clutch drive screws? I've got one clutch driver, don't know why I have it. Don't ever remember using it.

and SKS new for $189? this isn't 1985...a GOOD non-bubba'd SKS is going to run you $350-$400 if you are lucky. bubba'd/tacticool SKS run $600 on up...

My screwdrivers are anywhere from 3 to 30+ gears old. I keep them in toolbox drawers. The only ones with any rust on them are the ones in my truck toolbox and they've been rattling around in there for 20 years.

wow. nope. and real Russians go for more than Chinese or other's...'round here they were up into AK price ranges a few years ago but have backed down a bit. local armslist is $350 up to $800...but I do remember the 80's when you could get them new in cosmo with a case of ammo for $99 or less...now if I see one for under $250 I snap it up right quick.

for long-term storage I would try wrapping in some variant of rust-inhibiting paper, rather than plastic. Combined with a coat of oil or cosmolene on the blades you should be all set. Like this:

The OP has 4k posts... is it April fools yet? Besides, why buy an obscure set of drivers that you may never see...

If your that worried, keep them inside the house where the temp/humidity is better controlled and they'll never rust. Their shafts are chrome-plated for crying out loud.

Of course, you're only going to use that lockbox for your keys and GPS coordinates of your mountaintop cryogenic freezer where you store your screwdrivers...we can post this information here because no one but me knows the secret code that I have with the Sherpa that guards the location.

I can't help it. Not only do I use my tools, I drive my collector car (hard) and my pickup truck never gets parked in the garage.
