It appears (but hard to see exactly) the motor is 208-230 volts (will work OK on 240, btw) already. Can you perhaps clean and reshoot the picture of the motor's data plate?

I'll bet this compressor had a motor starter on it originally and someone cut the wires to remove it. Given the amperage, I'd say it needs a starter.

For general info, and comparison, THIS THREAD and THIS THREAD ALSO deal with magnetic starters for compressors. Both are recent threads. I cannot see trying to operate this compressor without a starter as it draws 26-28 amps, more than the average pressure switch can handle.

Condor makes pressure switches that have protection up to 30 amps. It is adjustable to the amps that you need. Graingers price is about $150.

Apparently only for three phase switches. Cannot find any for single phase that offer thermal protection.

I believe he needs to use a 3-phase starter and skip one of the legs. The magnetic starter I just used has a decal inside that tells how many amps it is rated for for both single and three phase.

Compressor guy who helped me out ended up just getting me an old 3-phase starter after his supplier said they could not get a suitable single-phase unit.
