So, I want to mount a weatherguard box exactly like this one in my tacoma. One of it's largest purposes will be to transport my very valuable tools between work and home when I want to use them for something. I have the factory plastic bedliner that objects slide very well on. I'm trying to decide what the best way to mount the box would be. What i would really like to be able to do is to unfasten the box from the bed and slide it all the way to the tailgate when loaded up with stuff to make transferring it's contents easy. I would also like to avoid having some crazy long mounting device sticking out if i remove the box because need the extra bed space for something.

I want this style of box rather than the traditional over the rail box primarily because I think it looks better, and i'll be able to use it with a canopy if i ever end up getting one.

What methods should I look into?

Two brackets, through the back wall of the bed, and the into box.

That's one of the things i was thinking of, but what specific style of bracket? I'm old enough to know there are probably a lot of different styles out there, but young enough to not know many of them.:willy_nil

Does your tacoma have the eye bolts in the corners? If so depending on how secure you want to make it a couple of chains and padlocks attached to eyebolts in the tool box. Or you could go with some of the high tensile security chain that is harder to cut.

Not sure, I'm a make it up as I go along kind of guy!
I probably would have something sticking out from the bed on either side of the box, and keep it close enough to the back edge of the box that it isn't in the way when the box gets pulled out and the bracket stays.

Mount two U bolts to the back of the bed. Cut slots in back of tool box that will slide over U bolts. Slide box in place and put a snap link through U bolts.

If you can reach between the bed and cab, you could reverse this and slot the bed then put padlock through the U bolts.
