How to move electrical wiring?

Hi guys, electrical question:

I am installing a cat flap from my garage to outside, but when I removed the drywall, there is a single electrical wire that runs RIGHT in the way.

I don't want to end up removing the entire wall to figure it out myself, and there is no slack in the wiring.

I also want to keep the hole where I have it because everywhere else will be right in the way of storage and workbench plans. Where I have it is really ideal, so I need to figure out how to deal with this wire.

Whats the best way around this? A quick search online said maybe I should find how which electrical outlet it goes to (easy way to figure that out?) and move it.

Is that the best approach? What do you guys suggest I do to either move the cable, or move the outlet so I can get enough slack in the wiring.

Use 2 Tyco wire splicers and add wire to go around cat door. No exposed wire boxes needed.
Haven't seen those. Really neat. And to be sure, when cutting a wire and adding boxes you often are working with short wire. That device is the best answer and adding at least one outlet is always handy.

After all, the cat may want to stop and plug something in.

That's legal in a wall? Kewl! I had not seen those before. Thanks for the tip.

These have been around for several years. At first they were only legal on modular home. One on the more recent NEC approved them for residential use also.

If you have access you could find where the wire originates, find where it ends, disconnect both sides then fish a new wire up from the origination point above the ceiling down to the end point. You may have to remove old boxes at either end to get room to fish new wire in etc..

I also would consider changes if it might help. The existing hole really gives access to at least 3 stud bays maybe more with old work boxes.
